Anti-acetylcholine receptor antibody titres in the sera of myasthenia patients treated with plasma exchange combined with immunosuppressive therapy.

چکیده
Anti-acetylcholine receptor antibody titres have been monitored in the sera of 19 myasthenic patients treated with plasma exchange combined with a three month period of immunosuppressive therapy. In general the post-exchange titres stabilised at below pre-exchange levels for prolonged periods which were associated with clinical improvement. In seven instances recurrence of symptoms occurred and in six of these cases relapse was shown to be associated with a rise in anti-acetylcholine receptor antibody titre.

Plasma exchange and immunosuppressive drug treatment in myasthenia gravis: no evidence for synergy.
We have investigated whether plasma exchange in myasthenia gravis synergises with additional immunosuppressive drug therapy (azathioprine, cyclophosphamide or cytosine arabinoside). Serum anti-acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibody titres were followed over 28 days after a course of PE in 20 patients, of whom 17 were taking 20-80 mg prednisone on alternate days. No significant difference was ob...
متن کاملSuccessful Treatment of Refractory Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura with Rituximab, a Monoclonal Antibody: a Case Report
Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is mostly attributed to the presence of an autoantibody against ADAMTS-13, a metalloprotease that degrades ultralarge von Willebrand protein multimers. Accumulation of vWF multimers and systemic platelet aggregation lead to microangiopathic thrombosis, hemolytic anemia, and end-organ ischemia. Most patients respond to therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), ...

OBJECTIVE To study the relationship of anti acetylycholine receptor antibody (AchR-Ab) titres with the demographic profile and severity of myasthenia gravis (MG). METHODS This prospective study was carried out on inpatients and outpatients at the Department of Neurology at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Islamabad. Seropositive cases of myasthenia gravis were collected and were classi...
متن کاملCombined Therapy for Anti-N-methyl D-aspartate Receptor Encephalitis
Background Anti-N-methyl- d-aspartate receptor (anti-NMDAR) encephalitis is an autoimmune neurological disorder that usually occurs as a paraneoplastic syndrome and is particularly associated with ovarian teratoma. Standard therapy for severe cases is not established and the prognosis in patients who do not respond to first-line treatment is poor. Case Report An 11-year-old boy complained ps...
متن کاملImmunological and functional properties of the acetylcholine receptor expressed on the human cell line TE671.
In the first part of the present study we compared the antigenicity of affinity-purified acetylcholine receptors from the cell line TE671 and from human skeletal muscle. The reactivities of the two acetylcholine receptor preparations showed a strong correlation (r = 0.96) in a radioimmunoassay using sera from myasthenia gravis patients. In additional functional studies, carbamylcholine stimulat...
