Fusion Rates in Nuclear Plasmas

چکیده
Energy and momentum of the elementary excitations become independent variables in medium: energy and momentum statistical distributions are not identical. The momentum distribution and not the energy distribution is relevant for barrier penetration. The deviations of the momentum distribution from the MaxwellBoltzmann energy distribution can be expressed in terms of the imaginary part of the self-energy of the quasi-particle. It is possible to obtain an effective Tsallis’ distribution for the kinetic energy. These effects are different from static or dynamical screening and can have important consequences for reaction rates in stars.

Inverse Braking Radiation and Resonance Absorption in Corona Plasmas of Inertial Confinement Fusion
Abstract: In this paper, combining the Maxwell equations with the electron balanceequation, we obtain the inverse braking radiation absorption coefficient in a laser fusioncorona plasma. For a fixed plasma temperature, variations of the absorption coefficientversus the penetration depth into the plasma are illustrated numerically for differentvalues of laser wavelength. ...
متن کاملNuclear astrophysical plasmas: ion distribution functions and fusion rates
This article illustrates how very small deviations from the Maxwellian exponential tail, while leaving unchanged bulk quantities, can yield dramatic effects on fusion reaction rates and discuss several mechanisms that can cause such deviations. Fusion reactions are the fundamental energy source of stars and play important roles in most astrophysical contexts. Since the beginning of quantum mech...
متن کاملA Particle X-ray Temporal Diagnostic (PXTD) for studies of kinetic, multi-ion effects, and ion-electron equilibration rates in Inertial Confinement Fusion plasmas at OMEGA (invited).
A Particle X-ray Temporal Diagnostic (PXTD) has been implemented on OMEGA for simultaneous time-resolved measurements of several nuclear products as well as the x-ray continuum produced in High Energy Density Plasmas and Inertial Confinement Fusion implosions. The PXTD removes systematic timing uncertainties typically introduced by using multiple instruments, and it has been used to measure DD,...
متن کاملHeating Rates and Enhanced Equilibration Rates with Strongly Correlated Ions in a Penning-Malmberg Trap
We laser-cooled up to 106 9Be+ ions to ∼1 mK in a Penning-Malmberg trap and measured the ion temperature as a function of time after turning off the cooling laser. We observed a rapid heating of the ions when their temperature in a direction parallel to the magnetic field increased above 10 mK and show that this is due to the equilibration of a warm (few kelvins) impurity-ion cyclotron motion w...
