Multiple Muscular Ventricular Septal Defects.
نویسندگان
چکیده
APPROXIMATELY 10 per cent of interventricular communications occur in the muscular portion of the ventricular septum.1-3 Of 259 cases of isolated ventricular septa] defects,2' 4-9 4.0 per cent had multiple muscular defects. Scant mention of these multiple defects as a distinct entity can be found in the recent literature, although the incidence is significant. We have observed characteristic findings in seven patients with multiple muscular ventricular septal defects. The purpose of this report is to describe the clinical picture, demonstrate the serious nature of this malformation, and emphasize the need for more thorough preoperative evaluation as well as careful inspection at the time of surgery. In addition, we wish to contrast this entity with the isolated muscular septal defect. A number of authors have commented that the latter anomaly has little functional significance.2, 4, 10-12

Color Doppler detection of multiple ventricular septal defects.
Combined two-dimensional and Doppler echocardiography has a high sensitivity and specificity for detection of isolated perimembranous ventricular septal defects. However, muscular or multiple ventricular septal defects may be difficult to diagnose with noninvasive methods, particularly in older children, necessitating angiography for accurate diagnosis. Detection of single and multiple ventricu...

متن کاملHigh prevalence of muscular ventricular septal defect in neonates.
OBJECTIVES This study sought to use echocardiography to evaluate the prevalence of muscular ventricular septal defect in neonates. BACKGROUND Ventricular septal defect is usually asymptomatic and closes spontaneously. An increase in its prevalence has been noted recently. One reason is the improved detection of small defects, especially with the increased used of echocardiography. Therefore, ...
متن کاملSequential Transcatheter Closure of a Patent Ductus Arteriosus and a Muscular Ventriculer Septal Defect in a Child
Due to the developing technology in pediatric catheterization and increasing experience of pediatric cardiologists, currently transcatheter closure of multiple cardiac defects has become available. The present case report describes a patient who successfully underwent sequential transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and muscular ventricular septal defect (VSD). Transcatheter c...
متن کاملAn Unusual Mechanism of Closure of Muscular Ventricular Septal Defects
Ventricular septal defects (VSDs) are the most common congenital heart defects. Most of the small or moderate size (<6 mm) muscular VSDs close spontaneously within the first two years of life. The usual mechanism of spontaneous closure involves muscular tissue encroachment with superimposed fibrosis or primary fibrous tissue formation around the margins of the defect. We describe an unusual mec...
