چکیده

In this paper, we derive 7 quadratic relations over GF (2) from the input and output bits of the S-boxes of DES. We apply one of those to an improved linear attack of full round DES. We describe an improved algorithm by combining the non-linear approximation method proposed by Knudsen and Robshaw, and the multiple approximation method proposed by Kaliski and Robshaw. This improvement can reduce the number of required plaintexts and ciphertexts pairs to 25/34 (73.5 %) of those number of pairs 2 required in the linear attack by Matsui.

Total break of Zorro using linear and differential attacks

An AES-like lightweight block cipher, namely Zorro, was proposed in CHES 2013. While it has a 16-byte state, it uses only 4 S-Boxes per round. This weak nonlinearity was widely criticized, insofar as it has been directly exploited in all the attacks on Zorro reported by now, including the weak key, reduced round, and even full round attacks. In this paper, using some properties discovered by Wa...

Relating Undisturbed Bits to Other Properties of Substitution Boxes

Recently it was observed that for a particular nonzero input difference to an S-Box, some bits in all the corresponding output differences may remain invariant. These specific invariant bits are called undisturbed bits. Undisturbed bits can also be seen as truncated differentials with probability 1 for an S-Box. The existence of undisturbed bits was found in the S-Box of Present and its inverse...

Novel Impossible Differential Cryptanalysis of Zorro Block Cipher

Impossible difference attack is a powerful tool for evaluating the security of block ciphers based on finding a differential characteristic with the probability of exactly zero. The linear layer diffusion rate of a cipher plays a fundamental role in the security of the algorithm against the impossible difference attack. In this paper, we show an efficient method, which is independent of the qua...

Extension of Cube Attack with Probabilistic Equations and its Application on Cryptanalysis of KATAN Cipher

Cube Attack is a successful case of Algebraic Attack. Cube Attack consists of two phases, linear equation extraction and solving the extracted equation system. Due to the high complexity of equation extraction phase in finding linear equations, we can extract nonlinear ones that could be approximated to linear equations with high probability. The probabilistic equations could be considered as l...

Feistel Schemes and Bi - Linear Cryptanalysis ? ( Long extended

In this paper we introduce the method of bi-linear cryptanalysis (BLC), designed specifically to attack Feistel ciphers. It allows to construct periodic biased characteristics that combine for an arbitrary number of rounds. In particular, we present a practical attack on DES based on a 1-round invariant, the fastest known based on such invariant, and about as fast as the best Matsui’s attack. F...
