چکیده
We would like to take this opportunity to respond to the Commentary by Cannell and his distinguished colleagues' (herein referred to as the "Commentary"). We agree that extensive basic research and adult clinical research performed in the past few decades have demonstrated that the levels of vitamin D required for optimal health are much higher than those needed to prevent rickets in children or osteomalacia in adults; it is also clear that vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency, newly defined for optimal health, are widespread.2 However, as discussed below, we take a different view on several issues criticized by Cannell et al' in their Commentary.

Background: Severity of respiratory infection in children is depended on various fac-tors such as causative organism and the host immunologic response to the organism. Vitamins and micronutrients play an important role in this response with supporting the immune system and therefore, the response to infections. Nutritional deprivations in children, especially vitamins and micronutrients such as...

Background: Urinary tract infection is one of the most common infectious diseases in children, the most severe form of which is acute pyelonephritis. Vitamin D plays a very important role in regulating the immune system, this study was conducted to compare vitamin D levels in children with urinary tract infections and healthy children in Kerman, Iran in 2020. متن کاملCorrelation of prenatal vitamin D deficiency and neonatal urinary tract infection
Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common infection during pregnancy and different age groups of children, including the neonatal period. It comprises 1/3 of bacterial infections in newborn infants, with a prevalence of 0.1-1% in term and 4-25% in preterm neonates. UTI occurs more commonly in male neonates (M/F: 2-6/1) for the higher incidence of structural abnormalities (1,2). Urin...
متن کاملEffects of Vitamin D in Neonates and Young Infants
Vitamin D is important for the development, growth, and mineralization of the skeletal in neonates and children. Vitamin D is essential for intestinal absorption of calcium. Vitamin D is metabolized to 25-hydroxyvitamin D and then to 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D. Pregnant women in developed countries often have insufficient serum concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and a supplementation of vitamin...
متن کاملEpidemic influenza and vitamin D.
In 1981, R. Edgar Hope-Simpson proposed that a 'seasonal stimulus' intimately associated with solar radiation explained the remarkable seasonality of epidemic influenza. Solar radiation triggers robust seasonal vitamin D production in the skin; vitamin D deficiency is common in the winter, and activated vitamin D, 1,25(OH)2D, a steroid hormone, has profound effects on human immunity. 1,25(OH)2D...
