Potential Impact Facility of an Innovative Fluid Delivery Device on Outcomes and Costs Associated with Pediatric Septic Shock
نویسنده
چکیده
Key Take-Away Early and rapid fluid resuscitation has been shown to significantly impact health and economic metrics in pediatric septic shock; however, using current techniques providers are rarely able to achieve published fluid delivery guidelines. In this model of fluid resuscitation in pediatric septic shock, use of the LifeFlow Rapid Infuser resulted in lower expected mortality compared to standard IV fluid delivery methods (8% vs. 27%). LifeFlow use also resulted in lower expected hospital costs ($12,865 vs. $45,296), a lower expected average Length of Stay (LOS; 6 days vs.10 days), and significantly greater adherence to ACCM/PALS guidelines for fluid delivery (91% vs. 37%).

Sepsis is the systemic response to severe infection in critically ill patients. Sepsis, septic syndrome & septic shock represent the increasingly severe stages of the same disease. Despite the remarkable improvements in outcome, sepsis & septic shock remain an important cause of morbidity & mortality in children. This is a retrospective study among the patients who were admitted in the pediatri...
متن کاملRestrictive versus Liberal Fluid Resuscitation in Children with Dengue Shock Syndrome: the differences in Clinical Outcomes and Hemodynamic Parameters
Background: Fluid resuscitation is the mainstay of treatment to counteract massive plasma leakage in dengue shock syndrome. We aimed to determine the differences in clinical outcomes and hemodynamic parameters of children with dengue shock syndrome post restrictive and liberal fluid resuscitation. Materials and Methods: A retrospective observational study of pediatric patients who were betwee...

Background & aim: The caesarean rate is on the rise in Cameroon; nonetheless, there is a paucity of data regarding its associated risk factors and outcomes. This study aimed to determine the associated risk factors, as well as maternal and fetal outcomes of caesarean delivery in four hospitals in Cameroon. Methods:</str...
متن کاملA trial to determine whether septic shock-reversal is quicker in pediatric patients randomized to an early goal-directed fluid-sparing strategy versus usual care (SQUEEZE): study protocol for a pilot randomized controlled trial
BACKGROUND Current pediatric septic shock resuscitation guidelines from the American College of Critical Care Medicine focus on the early and goal-directed administration of intravascular fluid followed by vasoactive medication infusions for persistent and fluid-refractory shock. However, accumulating adult and pediatric data suggest that excessive fluid administration is associated with worse ...
متن کاملImpact of Hypertonic Lactated Saline Resuscitation on Serum Interleukin-6 (IL-6) Level in Pediatric Severe Sepsis/Septic Shock in Developing Country
Background: Fluid rescucitation with normal saline (NS) could aggravate IL-6 production. Our objective was to compare impact of small volume resuscitation hypertonic lactated saline (HLS) versus NS in pediatric severe sepsis/septic shock in developing country hospital setting. The primary endpoint was the decrease of serum IL-6 level after 6 and 12 hours fluid resuscitation. The secondary endpo...
