چکیده

Abstrac-This paper describes the Dual-Use Mobile Detachable Manipulator, (DM)’, which is a mobile manipulator designed to operate in a lunar station scenario. (DM)* is designed to perform two very different kinds of tasks: exploration on the lunar terrain, and maintenance work in lunar manufacturing plants. Both tasks are essential during the early construction of a lunar station. In order to be able to competently perform both tasks, (DM)2 embodies a modular hardware design-mely a mobile base, and a detachable, symmetric manipulator arm with exchangeable grippers at each end. (DM)2 can work with a number of possibly different arms, each of which may use several kinds of specialized detachable end-effectors. This flexible hardware configuration enables the robot to be useful for many Merent kinds of operations on a lunar base. In turn, this flexibility of hardware configuration necessitates a software control architecture that is equally flexible-dowing for on-the-fly reconfiguration, and independence of high-level functionality from the details of the current hardware configuration. @MY is designed to perform its tasks eithm autonomously based on a task model and realtime vision system, or under the supervision of a human operator through a custom realtime teleoperation interface. Towards a Heterogeneous Modular Robotic Team in a Logistics Chain for Extended Extraterrestrial Exploration

Future extraterrestrial exploration missions ask for robotic systems able to handle tasks with increasing complexity. A reference mission within Amundsen crater near the lunar south pole for volatiles and rogolith analysis is outlined in this paper. The focus is on implementing a logistics chain introducing various heterogeneous mobile and immobile robotic systems. Within this context the robot...

In Situ Planetary Cathodoluminescence Spectroscopy of the Lunar Robotic Missions: Chemistry and Mineralogy of Plagioclase from the Lunar Regolith

Introduction: Basic knowledge about the composition and structure of the Moon was provided by the space missions of the USSR (Luna since 1959) and USA (Ranger and Surveyor since 1964). In particular Apollo missions 11 to 17 (1969-1972) with ca. 2200 samples (380 kg) gave new highlights and understandings for the geological research of our neighbor. Additional material was sampled by the Russian...
