چکیده

In an earlier paper, it is proposed that, due to resonance tunneling effect, tunneling from a large cosmological constant Λ site in the stringy comic landscape can be fast, while tunneling from a small Λ site may take exponentially long time. Borrowing the renormalization group analysis of the conductance in the Anderson localization transition, we treat the landscape as a multi-dimensional random potential and find that the vastness of the landscape leads to a sharp transition at a small critical value Λc from fast tunneling for Λ > Λc to suppressed tunneling for Λc > Λ > 0. Mobility in the landscape makes eternal inflation highly unlikely. As an illustration, we find that Λc can easily be exponentially small compared to the string/Planck scale. These properties may help us in finding a qualitative understanding why today’s dark energy is so small.

A numerical renormalization group approach for calculating the spectrum of a vibronic system occurring in molecules or impurities in insulators

Theoretically, in order to describe the behavior of a spectrum, a mathematical model whichcould predict the spectrum characteristics is needed. Since in this study a Two-state system has beenused like models which was introduced previously past and could couple with the environment, theformer ideas have been extended in this study. we use the second quantized version for writing thisHamiltonian...

The Cosmological Constant as an Eigenvalue of a Sturm-Liouville Problem and its Renormalization

Abstract. We discuss the case of massive gravitons and their relation with the cosmological constant, considered as an eigenvalue of a Sturm-Liouville problem. A variational approach with Gaussian trial wave functionals is used as a method to study such a problem. We approximate the equation to one loop in a Schwarzschild background and a zeta function regularization is involved to handle with ...

Cosmological Constant Problems and Renormalization Group

The Cosmological Constant Problem emerges when Quantum Field Theory is applied to the gravitational theory, due to the enormous magnitude of the induced energy of the vacuum. The unique known solution of this problem involves an extremely precise fine-tuning of the vacuum counterpart. We review a few of the existing approaches to this problem based on the account of the quantum (loop) effects a...

Casimir energy, the cosmological constant and massive gravitons

The cosmological constant appearing in the Wheeler–De Witt equation is considered as an eigenvalue of the associated Sturm–Liouville problem. A variational approach with Gaussian trial wave functionals is used as a method to study such a problem. We approximate the equation to one loop in a Schwarzschild background and a zeta function regularization is involved to handle with divergences. The r...

" Steckbrief " Λ

The phenomenology of the FLRW models with non-vanishing cosmological constant, λ, is briefly surveyed in the light of the recent astrophysical and cosmological observations. A subset of these λ 6= 0 models, which probably comprises the world where we live, is singled out by the combined data from high redshift Type Ia supernovae, CMBR and the cosmic inventory of matter in our universe. The kine...

Renormalization Group Approach to Cosmological Back Reaction Problems

We investigated the back reaction of cosmological perturbations on the evolution of the universe using the second order perturbation of the Einstein’s equation. To incorporate the back reaction effect due to the inhomogeneity into the framework of the cosmological perturbation, we used the renormalization group method. The second order zero mode solution which appears by the non-linearities of ...
