Mycobacterial Infections of Fish
ticularly in intensive aquaculture systems and display aquaria. These diseases are collectively referred to as “atypical mycobacteriosis” or simply “mycobacteriosis.” The term “fish tuberculosis” has been used in the past to refer to this group of diseases, but the term is not appropriate and should not be used. Tuberculosis is a very important disease of humans and mammals, but fish do not get...
متن کاملOccurrence and antimicrobial susceptibility of Mycobacterium peregrinum in ornamental fish
Systemic mycobacteriosis was diagnosed in a group of ornamental fish. Although a large number of acid-fast bacterial rods were identified in the kidneys, liver, and muscles of each fish, no granulomas were observed in internal organs. Mycobacterium peregrinum was identified using the GenoType Mycobacterium CM assay. This study illustrates a considerable risk of atypical mycobacteriosis in humans.

متن کاملStudies on the development of a vaccine against Mycobacterium sp
Mycobacteriosis, caused by Mycobacterium sp., results in severe loss of fish production in Japan’s aquaculture industry. Since the bacterium can survive and grow in side host cells, chemotherapeutic agents are not effective and potent vaccines are required to control the disease. In this study, the effects of two vaccine candidates, Bacillus Calmette and Guèrin (BCG, an attenuated strain of Myc...

The occurrence of fish mycobacteriosis in two goldfish, Carassius auratus and a red eyed tetra, Moenkhausia sanctaefilomenae was reported in Malaysia (ANDERSON et al., 1987).The disease was diagnosed based on typical morphology of fish tubercles, the presence of acid-fast bacteria in smears and granulomas, and the isolation of Mycobacterium sp.. Histopathological examina tion of the diseased fi...
