Using automatic speech processing to study French oral vowels

چکیده

Analysis of Oral and Nasal Vowel Realisation in Northern and Southern French Varieties
We present data on the pronunciation of oral and nasal vowels in northern and southern French varieties. In particular a sharp contrast exists in the fronting of the open /O/ towards [œ] in the North and the denasalisation of nasal vowels in the South. We examine how linguistic changes in progress may affect these vowels, which are governed by the left/right context and bring to light differenc...
متن کاملImpact of duration on F1/F2 forma automatic analysis of large broadca and Germa
Formant values of oral vowels are automatically measured in a total of 50000 segments from four hours of journalistic broadcast speech in French and German. After automatic segmentation using the LIMSI speech alignment system, formant values are automatically extracted using PRAAT. Vowels with unlikely formant values are discarded (4%). The measured values are exposed with respect to segment du...
متن کاملVelar Movements for Two French Speakers
This study compares velar movements for nasal vowels and consonants; it investigates contextual nasalisation; and it provides new data on how nasalisation is affected by speech rate. Velar position is measured with an electromagnetic articulatograph (EMA) for two French speakers. Our results confirm that (i) nasal vowels are produced with a lower velum height than nasal consonants; (ii) the con...
متن کاملAutomatic Anomaly Detection for Dysarthria across Two Speech Styles: Read vs Spontaneous Speech
Perceptive evaluation of speech disorders is still the standard method in clinical practice for the diagnosing and the following of the condition progression of patients. Such methods include different tasks such as read speech, spontaneous speech, isolated words, sustained vowels, etc. In this context, automatic speech processing tools have proven pertinence in speech quality evaluation and as...

Objective: This study was a basic investigation of the ability of concurrent speech segregation in hearing impaired children. Concurrent segregation is one of the fundamental components of auditory scene analysis and plays an important role in speech perception. In the present study, we compared auditory late responses or ALRs between hearing impaired and normal children. Materials & Methods...
متن کاملProsodic hierarchy and spectral realization of vowels in French
The aim of this study is to relate spectral realization of vowels and prosodic hierarchy in continuous speech. The IRISA speech alignment system is used and formant values of oral vowels are automatically measured in a total of 500,000 segments from around 30 hours of journalistic broadcast speech in French. The link between the duration of vowels and their spectral realization (through their f...
