Rapid tooling route selection for metal casting using QFD-ANP methodology
نویسندگان
چکیده
An integrated methodology using quality function deployment (QFD) and analytic network process (ANP) is proposed to determine and prioritize the engineering requirements of a cast part, based on the customer needs, for selecting and evaluating an appropriate rapid prototyping (RP) based route for tooling fabrication. The QFD incorporates a planning matrix to translate the customer needs into measurable engineering requirements using a robust evaluation method based on ANP. Experimental data generated by carrying out benchmarking studies of widely used RP processes was used to facilitate assignment of relative weights in ANP. The methodology is demonstrated and validated with an industrial example of a separator body casting. It has proved to be a robust evaluation and decision making tool for selecting appropriate tooling route for a given casting based on customer requirements.

Rapid tooling route selection and evaluation for sand and investment casting
Today, a number of direct routes using RP processes (FDM, LOM, SLA, SLS, etc.), as well as indirect routes (RP coupled with secondary or soft-tooling processes like RTV vacuum casting) are available for rapid fabrication of tooling for sand and investment casting processes. Each route is unique in terms of geometric, material, quality and cost characteristics; no comprehensive database of their...

Injection mold development lead time has been reduced presently by over 50% by employing rapid prototyping based tooling methods. Rapid tooling methods however, have certain limitations in terms of mold material, accuracy, surface finish, and mold life. The relevant process knowledge, especially for newer routes, is not very well established, resulting inconsistent or inappropriate rapid toolin...

For more than one decade layer manufacturing technologies assist the development of new products. Due to a layer-wise build-up of a three-dimensional geometry, nearly every complex design is producible in a short period of time. Selective Laser Sintering is a powderbased technique to produce plastic prototypes (Rapid Prototyping) or metal mould inserts (Rapid Tooling). The laser sintering of ce...

The primary target of this project consists of combining the technique of rapid prototyping and casting to produce aluminum parts in a sand mold being made the corresponding models and core boxes by means of the technology of rapid tooling, FDM (fused deposition modeling) of ABS. The followed process to obtain the pieces is casting, that consists of the fused metal spill in a mold pattern previ...
