چکیده

Swerdlow et al studied a cohort of 1075 men who had been treated for cryptorchidism. In 120 testes that had been biopsied at the time of orchiopexy the relative risk of subsequent development of testicular cancer was 66.7. The corresponding relative risk in 1285 undescended testes that had also been operated on but not biopsied was 6.7. The estimate for testes that were not biopsied is about as expected, but the high relative risk of testicular cancer in biopsied testes is a new finding not yet substantiated by other studies. A potential weakness of the study is the unclear criteria for biopsy in 9% of the testes in the series; this leaves open the possibility of selection bias if testes with a high risk of subsequent malignancy were preferably biopsied. To explore the risk of testicular cancer in an unselected population of biopsied undescended testes, we investigated a cohort of 830 men who had surgical treatment of 1026 undescended testes at this hospital between January 1971 and January 1992.

Testicular neoplasia in undescended testes of cryptorchid boys-does surgical strategy have an impact on the risk of invasive testicular neoplasia?

UNLABELLED We investigated whether or not surgical strategy has an impact on the risk of invasive testicular neoplasia in cases of cryptorchidism. We made a database study of the incidence of testicular neoplasia at surgery for cryptorchidism in childhood, and evaluated if such abnormalities were found in special categories of patients, and also of the incidence of testicular neoplasia after or...

Prevalence and Pathological Features of Cryptorchidism among Iranian Children in Yazd Province, Central Iran

Background Cryptorchidism is defined the failure of one testis or both testes to permanently descend. It is considered as the most common congenital abnormalities. The risk of testicular cancer in men with a history of cryptorchidism increased from three fold to four fold, compared to those without history of cryptorchidism. We aimed to investigate prevalence and pathological features of crypto...

Familial coaggregation of cryptorchidism, hypospadias, and testicular germ cell cancer: a nationwide cohort study.

BACKGROUND Cryptorchidism, hypospadias, and testicular germ cell cancer (TGCC) may be symptoms of a testicular dysgenesis syndrome that manifests during fetal life. To address the inheritability of this syndrome, we examined whether family history of cryptorchidism or hypospadias is associated with an increased risk of TGCC. METHODS A total of 2,159,883 men born since 1953, identified through...

Testicular biopsy: clinical practice and interpretation.

Testicular biopsy was considered the cornerstone of male infertility diagnosis for many years in men with unexplained infertility and azoospermia. Recent guidelines for male infertility have limited the indications for a diagnostic testicular biopsy to the confirmation of obstructive azoospermia in men with normal size testes and normal reproductive hormones. Nowadays, testicular biopsies are m...

The Association Risk of Male Subfertility and Testicular Cancer: A Systematic Review

BACKGROUND An association between male subfertility and an increased risk of testicular cancer has been proposed, but conflicting results of research on this topic have rendered this theory equivocal. To more precisely assess the association between subfertility and the risk of testicular cancer, we performed a systematic review of international epidemiologic evidence. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS We s...
