چکیده

Acknowledgments First and farmost, I would like to thank my thesis supervisor Dr. François Tremblay for his time and guidance throughout my research project. Thanks to him I was not only able successfully complete my project, but also have the opportunity to develop as a researcher by participating at various conferences. I extend my gratitude to Sabah Master for her help in data collection as well as her company, guidance and suggestions throughout my whole research project. I would also like to acknowledge Marielle Young-Bernier help with data collection. University of Ottawa for their financial support. They provided a master's graduate study scholarship and a research trainee fellowship respectively, towards the completion and presentation of this project. However, few studies have examined the link that exists between age-related alteration in neurophysiology and hand function. In this study, we used transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to investigate age-related effects on intracortical excitability and interhemispheric inhibition, including how changes in these measures could predict hand function. Participants consisted of young (n=13) and senior (n=17) healthy, right-handed individuals. Participants underwent a series of stimulations to determine their intracortical excitability and interhemispheric inhibition of each hemisphere. The former was evaluated by measuring the resting motor threshold (RMT), recruitment curve (RC) and …

Prevalence and Correlates of Functional Disability among Community-Dwelling Older Adults in India: Results of a National Survey in 2017-2019

Introduction: Aging may increase physical or functional limitations, and India has a rapidly aging population. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and correlates of difficulties with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) among older adults in India. Methods: The cross-sectional sample consisted of 31,477 individuals (≥ 60 years) from the Long...

Brain Functional Correlates of Intelligence Score in ADHD Based on EEG

Introduction: It has been shown that intelligence as a general mental ability is related to the structure and function of the brain regions. However, the specificity of these regional dependencies to the intelligence scores in the typical and atypical developed individuals needs to be well understood. In this study, we hypothesized that neural correlates of IQ should not have a fixed pattern ra...

Intraoperative spinal cord monitoring for intramedullary surgery: an essential adjunct.

Intraoperative monitoring of the functional integrity of the spinal cord during removal of intramedullary spinal cord lesions is an aid in intraoperative decision making and a primary tool for the prediction of neurological outcome. Motor evoked potential monitoring has become the neurophysiological monitoring technique of choice for that purpose. In the senior author's experience with over 130...

Neurophysiological correlates of aging-related muscle weakness.

Muscle weakness associated with aging implicates central neural degeneration. However, role of the primary motor cortex (M1) is poorly understood, despite evidence that gains in strength in younger adults are associated with its adaptations. We investigated whether weakness of biceps brachii in aging analogously relates to processes in M1. We enrolled 20 young (22.6 ± 0.87 yr) and 28 old (74.79...

Age-Related Changes in Frontal Network Structural and Functional Connectivity in Relation to Bimanual Movement Control.

UNLABELLED Changes in both brain structure and neurophysiological function regulating homotopic as well as heterotopic interhemispheric interactions (IHIs) are assumed to be responsible for the bimanual performance deficits in older adults. However, how the structural and functional networks regulating bimanual performance decline in older adults, as well as the interplay between brain structur...
