High-density lipoprotein function in regulating insulin secretion: possible relevance to metabolic syndrome.

چکیده
With the increased incidence of obesity in our population, the metabolic syndrome is frequently encountered. This syndrome is comprised of obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia (mostly manifest as hypertriglyceridemia and low plasma high-density lipoprotein [HDL] cholesterol), and insulin resistance. As long as the pancreatic islets retain the capacity for compensatory increase in insulin secretion to counter the peripheral insulin resistance, mostly manifest at the adipose tissue and muscle, frank diabetes will not ensue.1 The participation of triglycerides and fatty acids in the development of this syndrome has been examined.2 Do the lower plasma HDL levels also contribute?

Comparison of High and Moderate Intensity Aerobic Exercise on Serum Adipulin Levels and Some Indicators of Metabolic Syndrome in Obese Women
Background: Adipulin is a hormone secretd by fat cells that acts as a metabolic regulator with anti-inflammatory properties and is reduced through obesity, diabetes and inflammation. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the effect of high and moderate intensity aerobic exercise on serum adipolin levels and some indicators of metabolic syndrome in obese women. Methods: In this quasi-...
متن کاملSelective hepatic insulin resistance, VLDL overproduction, and hypertriglyceridemia.
Insulin plays a central role in regulating energy metabolism, including hepatic transport of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL)-associated triglyceride. Hepatic hypersecretion of VLDL and consequent hypertriglyceridemia leads to lower circulating high-density lipoprotein levels and generation of small dense low-density lipoproteins characteristic of the dyslipidemia commonly observed in metabo...
متن کاملThe Effect of 12 Weeks of Bariatric and Aerobic Exercises on Metabolic Syndrome Indices in Women
Purpose: Osteoarthritis is a frequent complication in the middle-aged or older people. Besides pain and swelling, this disease causes deformity and difficulty in walking. The current study compared the effects of 12 weeks bariatric and aerobic exercises on the metabolic syndrome in women with knee osteoarthritis. Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 24 women with knee osteoarthritis were...

Introduction: Interleukin-18 (IL-18) is a strong proinflammatory cytokine that its increased levels are associated with obesity, metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and atherosclerosis. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between serum interleukin-18 concentration with acylated ghrelin, growth hormone, insulin resistance, and lipid profile in o...
