Med., 1981, 133 (3), 293-300 A hot-water extract from delipidated Mycobacterium bovis strain BCG was fractionated by precipitation with ethanol. The chemical and biological properties of the subfractions thus obtained were investigated. A subfraction precipitated at 20% ethanol contained less neutral sugar and more ninhydrin-positive substance than other subfractions. Only the guinea pigs that were treated with 20% ethanol-precipitate showed no humoral antibody response to egg white albumin, despite positive skin reaction. The subfractions precipitated at low concentrations of ethanol exhibited a significant antitumor activity in ddY and C3H/He mice inoculated intraperitoneally with tumor cells. These results suggest that the hot-water extract from delipidated BCG consists of subfractions with different chemical and biological properties. immunotherapy; Mycobacterium bovis BCG; adjuvant activity

Chemical and biological properties of hot water extract from delipidated cells of Mycobacterium bovis strain BCG.
A water-soluble fraction was isolated from delipidated cells of Mycobacterium bovis strain BCG by extraction with hot water. Chemical analyses revealed that the above fraction presumably consisted of a peptidoglycan containing 5-10% of nucleic acids. When it was injected into guinea pigs with Freund's incomplete adjuvant plus egg white albumin as antigen, an increase of circulating antibody was...

Delipidated and deproteinized cell walls from Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Ra suspended in 1.25% mineral oil emulsion cured established tumors in the skin and metastases in draining lymph nodes of guinea pigs (strain 2) after intratumoral administration in 33% of the cases examined. This was increased to 83% when a mixture of cord factor and the delipidated cell walls was used. A similarly hig...
متن کاملAntifungal Properties of Crude Extracts, Fractions, and Purified Compounds from Bark of Curatella americana L. (Dilleniaceae) against Candida Species
The ethnomedicinal plant Curatella americana L. (Dilleniaceae) is a common shrub in the Brazilian cerrado, in which crude extract showed antifungal activity in a preliminary study. In this work, the antifungal and cytotoxic properties of the crude extract, fractions, and isolated compounds from C. americana were evaluated against the standard yeast strains Candida albicans, C. tropicalis, and C...

A process for the effective extraction and fractionation of phlorotannins from Fucus vesiculosus with high antioxidant potentials was investigated. The antioxidant activity of F. vesiculosus extract/fractions was assessed by 2,2-diphenyl-1picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, reducing power, and ferrous ion-chelating assays. Among the crude extract and different polarity fractions, the phlo...
متن کاملBiological properties of the paraffin oil extract of dried heat-killed BCG.
It is an already established fact through the investigations by Thomson (1), Saenz (2), Rist (3), Freund (4), Hensel (5), etc that the inoculation of a paraffin oil suspension of heat-killed tubercle bacilli produces in experimental animals a state of hypersensitivity much more intense and lasting than that given by the same amount of the killed bacilli in saline solution. We have confirmed thi...
