Absorptive and dispersive optical responses of excitons in a single quantum dot

چکیده
The authors have determined both the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric polarizability of a single quantum dot. The experiment is based on the observation and the manipulation of Rayleigh scattering at photon frequencies near the resonance of an optical exciton transition in single self-assembled InAs and InGaAs quantum dots. The interference between the narrow-band laser field and the weak electromagnetic field coherently scattered by the quantum dot is detected with a cryogenic Fabry-Pérot setup by combined differential transmission and reflectivity measurements. © 2006 American Institute of Physics. Rabi oscillations of excitons in single quantum dots.
Transient nonlinear optical spectroscopy, performed on excitons confined to single GaAs quantum dots, shows oscillations that are analogous to Rabi oscillations in two-level atomic systems. This demonstration corresponds to a one-qubit rotation in a single quantum dot which is important for proposals using quantum dot excitons for quantum computing. The dipole moment inferred from the data is c...
متن کاملLinear and nonlinear optical properties of a modified Gaussian quantum dot: pressure, temperature and impurity effect
In this paper, the effect of pressure, temperature and impurity on the energylevels, binding energy, linear and nonlinear optical properties of a modified Gaussianquantum dot are studied. In this regard, the finite element method is employed to solvethe single electron Schrodinger equation in the effective mass approximation with andwithout impurity at the center of the dot. In addition, the en...
متن کاملTheory of Coherent Optical Control of Exciton Spin Dynamics in a Semiconductor Dot
We use the spin-polarized excitons in a single quantum dot to design optical controls for basic operations in quantum computing. We examine the ultrafast nonlinear optical processes required and use the coherent nonlinear optical responses to deduce if such processes are physically reasonable. The importance and construction of an entangled state of polarized exciton states in a single quantum ...

Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) serve as a new class of ‘zero dimensional’ nanomaterial’s in thecarbon class with sizes below 10 nm. As light emitting nanocrystals, QDs are assembled from semiconductormaterials, from the elements in the periodic groups of II-VI, III-V or IV-VI, mainly thanks to impacts of quantum confinement QDs have unique optical properties such as brighter, highly pho...
متن کاملRole of negative dielectric and optical quantum dot waveguiding methods in communication
While the application of optical and photonic technologies in the communications, computing, medicine and industrial manufacturing has been growing rapidly, the miniaturization of these technologies has been slow due to the limitation on the diffraction. However, the developments of nanoscale components and guiding methods are continuing with a rapid pace. Since waveguiding is a fundamental iss...
