Explosion Pressures of Confined Deflagrations Propagating in Stoichiometric Gaseous Mixtures of Lower Alkanes with Air
نویسندگان
چکیده
An experimental study on maximum explosion pressure in closed vessel deflagration of stoichiometric gaseous mixtures, for various initial pressures within 0.3 – 1.2 bar and ambient initial temperature is reported. Explosion pressures and explosion times of stoichiometric methane-, ethaneand propane-air mixtures were measured in a spherical vessel and in two cylindrical vessels with different diameter/height ratios. The measured explosion pressures are examined in comparison with the adiabatic explosion pressures, computed by assuming chemical equilibrium within the flame front. The influence of initial pressure and heat losses during propagation on explosion pressures and explosion times are discussed for the examined systems. Both measured and calculated explosion pressures are linear functions of total initial pressure, at constant initial temperature and fuel concentration. key words: explosion pressure; explosion time; alkanes; flammable mixtures. received: October 02, 2009 accepted: October 13, 2009

The upper explosion limit of lower alkanes and alkenes in air at elevated pressures and temperatures.
The upper explosion limit (UEL) of ethane-air, propane-air, n-butane-air, ethylene-air and propylene-air mixtures is determined experimentally at initial pressures up to 30 bar and temperatures up to 250 degrees C. The experiments are performed in a closed spherical vessel with an internal diameter of 200 mm. The mixtures are ignited by fusing a coiled tungsten wire, placed at the centre of the...
متن کاملInitial Pressure and Mixture Composition Influence on LPG-air Confined Explosions
Values of some characteristic parameters of confined explosions for LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas)-air quiescent mixtures are examined in correlation with the initial pressure of fuel-air mixture and fuel/air ratio. The explosion pressures, the explosion times and the maximum rates of pressure rise were obtained from experiments made at ambient initial temperature in two closed vessels with cent...

An experimental study on pressure evolution during closed vessel explosions of several gaseous fuel-air mixtures was performed, at various initial pressures within 0.3-1.2 bar and ambient initial temperature. Explosion pressures and explosion times are reported for methane-, n-pentane-, n-hexane-, propene-, butene-, butadiene-, cyclohexane- and benzene-air mixtures. The explosion pressures meas...
متن کاملExtension of Linear Isotherm Regularity to Long Chain Alkanes
In this work, we consider each normal alkane as a hypothetical mixtureof methyland methylene groups, in which the interaction potential of each pair is assumed to be the average effective pair potential. Then, the LIR equation of state (EOS) is extended for such a hypothetical mixture. Also, three basic compounds, namely, propane, n-butane and cyclohexane, are used to obtain the contributio...
متن کاملAnalysis of fire and explosion hazards of some hydrocarbon-air mixtures.
Hazards caused by leakage of hydrocarbons have long been a problem. In this paper, the critical initiation energy and explosion limits of some hydrocarbon-air mixtures have been measured in confined (rectangle shock tube) and unconfined (plastic bag) condition tests. Two dimensionless parameters are suggested to compare the fire and explosion hazards of different hydrocarbons. Additionally, a s...
