چکیده

The ability to autonomously assemble large structures in space is desirable for the construction of large orbiting solar arrays, interplanetary spacecraft, or space telescopes. One technique uses freeying satellites to manipulate and connect elements of the structure. Since these elements are often exible and lack embedded actuators and sensors, the assembly robot must use its own actuators and onboard measurements to suppress vibrations during transportation maneuvers. This thesis will examine the dynamic modeling of a freeying robot attached to a exible beam-like element, vision-based estimation of vibrational motion, and trajectory control for assembly of a space structure. On-Orbit Assembly of Flexible Space Structures with SWARM

On-orbit assembly is an enabling technology for many space applications. However, current methods of human assisted assembly are high in cost and risk to the crew, motivating a desire to automate the on-orbit assembly process using robotic technology. Construction of large space structures will likely involve the manipulation of flexible elements such as trusses or solar panels, and automation ...

Near-Minimum Time Optimal Control of Flexible Spacecraft during Slewing Maneuver

The rapid growth of space utilization requires extensive construction, and maintenance of space structures and satellites in orbit. &#10This will, in turn, substantiate application of robotic systems in space. In this paper, a near-minimum-time optimal control law is developed for a rigid space platform with flexible links during an orientating maneuver with large angle of rotation. The time op...

Dynamics of Space Free-Flying Robots with Flexible Appendages

A Space Free-Flying Robot (SFFR) includes an actuated base equipped with one or more manipulators to perform on-orbit missions. Distinct from fixed-based manipulators, the spacecraft (base) of a SFFR responds to dynamic reaction forces due to manipulator motions. In order to control such a system, it is essential to consider the dynamic coupling between the manipulators and the base. Explicit d...
