Studies on Primary Atypical Pneumonia

چکیده

A factor present in fresh normal human or guinea pig serum enhances the primary atypical pneumonia (PAP) antibody titers in serological reaction with its homologous virus as tested by indirect fluorescent antibody staining. This factor is not properdin. It has many properties similar to complement but may not be identical with complement. The addition of this enhancement factor to human sera convalescent from primary atypical pneumonia has made the serological test more sensitive without affecting its specificity.

Observations on Certain Sero- Logical and Physical Features of Cold Agglutinins in Cases of Primary Atypical Pneumonia and of Hemolytic Anemia

Some of the properties of cold agglutinins in certain human sera have been listed in a recent review (1). The knowledge concerning these properties is based on studies of the phenomenon by various methods in serum or plasma from isolated cases of a large variety of conditions. With respect to the cold agglutinins in cases of primary atypical pneumonia, limited studies of certain aspects were re...

Studies on the Etiology of Primary Atypical Pneumonia a Filterable Agent Transmissible to Cotton Rats, Hamsters, and Chick Embryos*

During the past 5 years the cause of primary atypical pneumonia has been ascribed to at least eight separate and distinct infectious agents (1-14). Some of these appear to be new or unidentified viruses (1-8). Others are recently discovered members of the psittacosis-lymphogranuloma venereum group (9-12). In addition, the rickettsiae of Q fever (13) and the virus of lymphocytic choriomeningitis...

Primary atypical pneumonia.

Many recent communications to the medical literature on primary atypical pneumonia have emphasized the difficulty of differentiating that disease from other pneumonic consolidations from the roentgenogram I t is generally recognized that the various pulmonary inflammations do, on x-ray examination, have a tendency to group types: there are so-called "typical" pictures for pneumococcal lobar con...

Studies on the Etiology of Primary Atypical Pneumonia

1. A filterable virus from certain cases of primary atypical pneumonia was transmitted to chick embryos by inoculation into the amnion of suspensions of bacteriologically sterile lung tissue or filtered sputum, and three strains were adapted by passage. 2. After intranasal inoculation into cotton rats or hamsters, suspensions of the infected chick embryo tissues produced pulmonary lesions which...

A Clinical Report on Cases of Primary Atypical Pneumonia Caused by a New Virus.

During the 10 years which have passed since the disease now designated as primary atypical pneumonia began to take form as a definite clinical entity, considerable progress has been made in studies of its clinical and epidemiological aspects (1). Progress in etiological studies, however, has been comparatively slow. The isolation of a number of infectious agents from single patients or small gr...
