چکیده

A multivariable nonlinear control strategy which accounts for unmeasured state variables and input constraints is developed for the free-radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate in a continuous stirred tank reactor. Monomer concentration and reactor temperature are controlled using a technique which combines nonlinear input–output decoupling and linear model predictive control. Input constraints are handled explicitly by applying linear model predictive control to the constrained linear system obtained after feedback linearization and constraint transformation. Unmeasured initiator and solvent concentrations are accounted for by treating the live polymer concentration as an unknown parameter which is estimated on-line. The performance of the control strategy is compared to other nonlinear control techniques through closed-loop simulations.

Bounded Robust Control of Constrained Multivariable Systems

This work focuses on output feedback control of a class of multi-input multi-output nonlinear systems with timevarying uncertain variables and input constraints. A robust dynamic output feedback controller is constructed through combination of a stabilizing bounded robust multivariable state feedback controller with high-gain observers and saturation filters. The state feedback component is des...

Nonlinear Control Singular of a Polymerization CSTR with Characteristic Matrix

This experimental work concerns the multivariable nonlinear control of a pilotsize continuous polymerization reactor with generically singular characteristic matrix. The control problem is to control conversion and temperature in a continuous stirred tank reactor by manipulating two coordinated flow rates (reactor residence time) and two coordinated heat inputs. A nonlinear controller is synthe...

Sliding Control of MIMO Nonlinear Systems

Sliding control of MIMO (multivariable input-multivariable output) nonlinear minimum phase systems is discussed. Stability conditions related to model errors are emphasized. Global asymptotic stability is guaranteed by applying Barbalat's Lyapunov-like lemma. The control law is applied to a simulator of a polymerization reactor.

FeedforwardIFeedback Control of Multivariable Nonlinear Processes

This paper concerns general MlMO nonlinear processes, whose dynamic behavior is described by a standard state-space model of arbitrary order, including measurable disturbances. The concept of relative order of an output with respect to an input, extended to include disturbance as well as manipulated inputs, is generalized in a MlMO context and it is used to obtain a characterization of the dyna...

Discrete-Time Nonlinear Feedback Control of Multivariable Processes

Discrete-time nonlinear feedback control laws are derived for multivariable nonlinear processes, whose “delay-free” parts are minimum phase. These include mixed errorand state-feedback, error-feedback, and mixed errorand output-feedback laws, which can induce linear input output closed-loop response. This study is carried out within the framework of the discrete-time globally linearizing contro...
