A B C Introduction Following the formation of a surgical defect, a closure type is chosen to suit the surrounding tissue characteristics and defect size. While primary closure is often the first choice, simple suturing may not be sufficient to appropriately close the defect. Size is the most common deterrent from primary closure, where the long or short axes of the defect are either too long or too wide, respectively.1,2 Rhomboid flaps maintain continuity of texture, color, and vascularity with the surrounding tissue, eliciting the most successful aesthetic outcome.3 Rhomboid flaps are most commonly used for tumor resection in head and neck surgeries but are widely applicable in fields such as general and plastic surgery, ophthalmology, and otolaryngology.1,3

Lip Reconstruction after Tumor Ablation
Approximately 25% of all oral cavity carcinomas involve the lips, and the primary management of these lesions is complete surgical resection. Loss of tissue in the lips after resection is treated with a variety of techniques, depending on the extension and location of the defect. Here we review highly accepted techniques of lip reconstruction and some of new trials with significant clinical ...
متن کاملHOW WE DO IT A Modified Rhomboid Flap: The “Diamond Flap”
Rhomboid flaps are frequently used in facial reconstruction to repair rhombus-shaped defects. The aesthetic and mechanical properties of these flaps make them especially useful for reconstruction of defects on the cheek, temple, lips, nose, and eyelids. Rhomboid flaps are full-thickness cutaneous local flaps with a random blood supply; they rely on the dermal–subdermal plexus of blood vessels. ...
متن کاملRelease of Contractures by Subcutaneous Pedicled Rhomboid Flaps
The subcutaneous pedicled rhomboid flap is a technique that can release scar contractures without skin graft or additional flap. This study was planned to evaluate the efficacy of this technique. This prospective interventional study was conducted in the department of Plastic Surgery, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, over a period of 16 months. A total of 28 procedures of subcutaneous pedicled r...
متن کاملThe rhomboid flap: a simple technique to cover the skin defect produced by excision of a mucous cyst of a digit.
Rhomboid flaps were used rather than rotation flaps for skin cover after excision of mucous cysts of the finger in six patients. The rhomboid flap is a safe, reliable technique which is more easily taught and applied than the rotation flap.

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to present our clinical experience with rhomboid flaps. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-four patients who were operated on between January 2006 and October 2010 were included in the study. All defects were reconstructed using rhomboid flaps. RESULTS Twenty-four patients were operated on for various reasons, and 26 rhomboid flaps were performed. Eleven of the ...
