Modeling The Fan Effect Using Dynamically Structured Holographic Memory
نویسنده
چکیده
Dynamically Structured Holographic Memory (DSHM), a system based on holographic reduced representations, designed for modeling memory is described. A DSHM model of the fan effect (Anderson, 1974) is presented. Comparisons between the DSHM model and an existing ACT-R model (Anderson & Reder, 1999) are made. It is argued that DSHM can be interpreted as providing a lower-level account of several features of ACT-R such as activation, noise, and the ability to make errors.

Modeling a Three Term Fan Effect
A fan effect experiment where participants perform recall and recognition tasks on a study set of sentences with three content words was conducted. The aggregate results confirm a fan effect (Anderson, 1974). A model of the recall and recognition tasks was created using Dynamically Structured Holographic memory (DSHM). A comparison to the human data is presented. A discussion of the current res...
متن کاملUsing DSHM to Model Paper, Rock, Scissors
Dynamically Structured Holographic Memory (DSHM) is architecture for modeling memory. It was originally designed to account for long-term memory alone. However, the current model of Paper, Rock, Scissors (PRS) play (and Rock=2 PRS play) provides evidence that DSHM can be used to model tasks where the truth of facts change quickly and dynamically.
متن کاملEncoding and Accessing Linguistic Representations in a Dynamically Structured Holographic Memory System
This paper presents a computational model that integrates a dynamically structured holographic memory system into the ACT-R cognitive architecture to explain how linguistic representations are encoded and accessed in memory. ACT-R currently serves as the most precise expression of the moment-by-moment working memory retrievals that support sentence comprehension. The ACT-R model of sentence com...
متن کاملDecision making in a dynamically structured holographic memory model: Learning from delayed feedback
We present a first step towards developing a cognitive model of decision making using Dynamically Structured Holographic Memory (DSHM). DSHM is a class of memory models used to model human performance in game play, memory tasks, and language learning. The ability to detect and predict patterns is an integral part of memory models and an important part of decision making. However, decision makin...
متن کاملElectrically switchable cylindrical Fresnel lens based on holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystals using a Michelson interferometer
Fabricating an electrically switchable cylindrical Fresnel lens based on holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (H-PDLC) using a Michelson interferometer is reported. Simplicity of the method and possibility of fabricating different focal length lenses in a single set up are among the advantages of the method. It is demonstrated that the Fresnel structured zone plate acts as a cylindrica...
