Used-oil Analysis Using a Portable FTIR Spectrometer

چکیده
In modern high-tech machinery, lubrication has nearly the same signifi cance as the machine itself. Its main function is to minimize wear on moving parts even in the harshest environments. Due to its essential role in modern engines lube oil degradation can lead to costly failure of the equipment if not detected at an early stage. A continuous oil condition monitoring program helps to avoid unnecessary maintenance, lowers the risk of failures, and helps to save money if the lube oil is replaced dead on time. With infrared (IR) spectroscopy a cost-effective technique is available that can provide deep insights into the oil condition on-site. Its speed, the reliability of the results and the large amount of information that can be gained from an IR spectrum has made IR spectroscopy the preferred routine method for in-service oil analysis laboratories around the world. With the portable FTIR oil analyzer ERASPEC OIL, developed by the Austrian manufacturer eralytics, a solution is now available for the increasing demand of on-site high-precision lube oil testing. Determination of Sucrose Levels in Infant Cereals Using the Agilent Cary 630 ATR-FTIR Spectrometer
Cereal-based and sucrose-coated infant cereals were ground, and the sucrose, glucose, and fructose concentrations were determined with the Agilent Cary 630 Fourier transform mid-infrared, FTIR, instrument and compared to values measured by HPLC. The results indicate that use of the portable FTIR instrument was in line with the HPLC measurements, and that the Cary 630 is suitable for real-time a...
متن کاملIn situ analysis of corrosion inhibitors using a portable mass spectrometer with paper spray ionization.
Paper spray (PS) ambient ionization is implemented using a portable mass spectrometer and applied to the detection of alkyl quaternary ammonium salts in a complex oil matrix. These salts are commonly used as active components in the formulation of corrosion inhibitors. They were identified in oil and confirmed by their fragmentation patterns recorded using tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). The ...
متن کاملDetermination of the Degree of Degradation of Frying Rapeseed Oil Using Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy Combined with Partial Least-Squares Regression
This rapid method for determining the degree of degradation of frying rapeseed oils uses Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy combined with partial least-squares (PLS) regression. One hundred and fifty-six frying oil samples that degraded to different degrees by frying potatoes were scanned by an FTIR spectrometer using attenuated total reflectance (ATR). PLS regression with full cros...
متن کاملApplication of FTIR and Raman microspectroscopy to the study of food/packaging interactions.
This study assesses the suitability of Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy for potential use as analytical tools to determine the diffusivity of a migrant in a plastic packaging material, one of the key points in safety assessment of food-contact materials. Despite its relative low sensitivity, FTIR-based analysis supplied data for the material on desorption of...
متن کاملTrans Fatty Acid Analysis of Frying Oil Using ATR-FTIR Spectroscopy: A Study on Indian Traditional Snack Foods
Background: Trans Fatty Acid (TFA) content in oil is an important quality parameter due to its adverse health effect. This study was aimed to examine the TFA content in the frying oil used by street food vendors in India for two traditional snack foods. Methods: Totally, 143 oil samples were collected at different frying times (0, 2, and 4 h) from five different vendors for Samosa and Jalebi. ...
