Nonperturbative definition of the pole mass and short distance expansion of the heavy quark potential in QCD

چکیده

We show that the O(Λ) ambiguity in the pole mass can be fixed in a natural way by introducing a properly define nonperturbative V-scheme momentum space coupling αV (q) where the confining contributions have been subtracted out. It is found, relying on a result of Lüscher, that in quenched QCD αV (0)=0.196. The same coupling parametrizes the short distance power corrections to the heavy quark potential, and it is demonstrated in a transparent way that there indeed exists O(r) short distance power corrections to the potential of mixed origin, arising both from the standard linear confining term Kr (where K is the string tension), and from the leading renormalon in the momentum space potential.

Heavy Quark Effective Theory beyond Perturbation Theory: Renormalons, the Pole Mass and the Residual Mass Term

We study the asymptotic behaviour of the perturbative series in the heavy quark effective theory (HQET) using the 1/Nf expansion. We find that this theory suffers from an ultraviolet renormalon problem, corresponding to a non-Borel-summable behaviour of perturbation series in large orders, and leading to a principal nonperturbative ambiguity in its definition. This ambiguity is related to an in...

On the short distance nonperturbative corrections in heavy quark expansion

We study the corrections due to renormalons to the heavy hadron decay width. The renormalons contribution estimated in terms of finite gluon mass based on the assumption that the gluon mass represents the short distance nonperturbative effects in the standard OPE (and hence in the heavy quark expansion). We found that the corrections are about 10% of the leading decay rate. We point out the imp...

More on ambiguities in the pole mass

The relation between the pole quark mass and the MS-renormalized mass is governed by an infrared renormalon singularity, which leads to an ambiguity of order ΛQCD in the definition of the pole mass. We use the renormalization group and heavy quark effective theory to determine the exact nature of this singularity up to an overall normalization. In the abelian gauge theory, the normalization is ...

Infrared renormalization-group flow for heavy-quark masses.

A short-distance heavy-quark mass depends on two parameters: the renormalization scale mu and a scale R controlling the absorption of infrared fluctuations. The radius for perturbative corrections that build up the mass beyond its pointlike definition in the pole scheme is approximately 1/R. Treating R as a variable gives a renormalization-group equation. R evolution improves the stability of c...

Static quark anti-quark free energy and the running coupling at finite temperature

We analyze the free energy of a static quark anti-quark pair in quenched QCD at short and large distances. From this we deduce running couplings, g(r, T ), and determine the length scale that separates at high temperature the short distance perturbative regime from the large distance nonperturbative regime in the QCD plasma phase. Ambiguities in the definition of a coupling beyond the perturbat...
