Effective Service Replication Mechanisms Exploiting Agent Mobility∗

چکیده

To enhance scalability of replicated services a large number of mobile agents attempt to access in mobile agent systems, we present a new strategy to apply an appropriate passive replication mechanism to each replicated service according to its execution behavior because deterministic services require weaker constraints to ensure their consistency than non-deterministic ones. For this goal, two passive replication mechanisms are introduced for non-deterministic services and for deterministic services respectively. They both allow visiting mobile agents to be forwarded to and execute on any node performing a service agent, not necessarily the primary agent. Especially, in case of the mechanism for deterministic services, after a backup service agent has received a mobile agent request and obtained the delivery sequence number of the request from the primary service agent, the backup agent, not the primary one, is responsible for processing the request and coordinating with the other replica service agents. Key–Words: Distributed agent-based systems, Service replication, Scalability, Reliability, Determinism

Reliable Directory Service and Message Delivery for Large-scale Mobile Agent Systems

In this paper, we introduce a reliable directory service and message delivery mechanism for large-scale mobile agent systems to address both agent mobility and directory service node failures. The mechanism enables each mobile agent to keep its forwarding pointer only on the small number of its visiting nodes in an autonomous manner. As this desirable feature has every mobile agent’s migration ...

A Novel Service Mobility Architecture for SIP Environments

Lately, the proliferation of small portable devices has driven the introduction of a new mobility concept called service mobility. In order to support service mobility, we introduce a new architecture implementing mechanisms to access end user’s personalized services regardless of his physical location. The proposed architecture leverages on mobile agent technology to transport and move service...

A Case for Fluid Replication

The performance of distributed services is becoming increasingly variable due to changing load patterns and user mobility. The two approaches to this problem, cluster-based, scalable services and peer replication, solve only part of the problem. Cluster-based services deal only with end-service variability, while peer replication compromises safety and precludes the ability to offer bounds on c...

A Secure and Effective Anonymous User Authentication Scheme for Roaming Service in Global Mobility Networks

In global mobility networks, anonymous user authentication is an essential task for enabling roaming service. In a recent paper, Jiang et al. proposed a smart card based anonymous user authentication scheme for roaming service in global mobility networks. This scheme can protect user privacy and is believed to have many abilities to resist a range of network attacks, even if the secret informat...

The Role of Layer 4-7 Services in Scaling Applications for the Cloud-Computing Data Center

Scaling a cloud application involves scaling three mechanisms: location (mobility), replication, and load balancing. Virtualization was an early catalyst for cloud computing because it substantially lowered the cost of replication and mobility of a prepackaged application. It does not, however, solve the load-balancing problem. Load balancing involves scaling the address, name space, transport,...
