Maximum Redshift and Minimum Rotation Period of Neutron Stars

چکیده
The lower bound on the period of uniform rotation of neutron stars (NS) with causal equation of state (EOS), Pmin, is shown to be determined, with a high precision, by the upper bound on the surface redshift of static neutron star models, zmax. We obtain zmax = 0.851, which turns out to be about 5% lower than upper bound obtained by Lindblom (1984). Using then the empirical formula for the maximum rotation frequency of uniform rotation of neutron star models with realistic causal EOS, derived by Lasota et al. (1996), we establish an approximate relation between zmax and Pmin, in which Pmin is proportional to the maximum mass of static NS, Mmax s . In this way we reproduce, within 2%, the exact formula of Koranda et al. (1997) based on extensive exact numerical calculations. Replacing Mmax s by the maximum measured NS mass, 1.442 M , we get a lower bound Pmin ' 0.288 ms.

Causal Configurations of Homogeneous Energy Density in General Relativity
If the causality condition [the speed of sound always remains less than that of light in vacuum, i. e., v ≤ c = 1] is imposed on the spheres of homogeneous energy density, the ‘ratio of the specific heats’, γ ≤ 2.59457, constraints the compaction parameter, u[≡ (M/a), mass to size ratio in geometrized units] of the dynamically stable configurations ≤ 0.34056 [corresponding to a surface redshift...
متن کاملOn the minimum period of uniformly rotating neutron stars
We show that the neutron star minimum period of uniform rotation is determined, for causal equations of state, by the maximum value of the relativistic (compactness) parameter 2GM/Rc2, allowed by causality for static neutron stars,0.7081, and by the largest measured mass of a neutron star. The relation between these three quantities, resulting from the extrapolation of the empirical formulae of...
متن کاملExtracting Information from the Gravitational Redshift of Compact Rotating Objects
When rotation is not taken into account, the measurement of the Gravitational Redshift can provide unique information about the compactness (M/R) of the star. Rotation alters the gravitational redshift rendering thereby a unique determination of the compactness parameter impossible. Nevertheless, it can be shown that by using some theoretical input, useful information on, say, the radii of comp...
متن کاملProperties of non-rotating and rapidly rotating protoneutron stars
Properties of non-rotating and rapidly rotating protoneutron stars and neutron stars are investigated. Protoneutron stars are hot, lepton rich neutron stars which are formed in TypeII supernovae. The hot dense matter is described by a realistic equation of state which is obtained by extending a recent approach of Myers and Świa̧tecki to the nuclear mass formula. We investigate the properties of ...
متن کاملDifferent Magnetic Field Distributions in Deformed Neutron Stars
In this work, we review the formalism which would allow us to model magnetically deformed neutron stars. We study the effect of different magnetic field configurations on the equation of state (EoS) and the structure of such stars. For this aim, the EoS of magnetars is acquired by using the lowest order constraint variational (LOCV) method and employing the AV18 potential....
