چکیده

EUKEMOGENESIS induced by repeated exposures to x-ray and other forms of radiation energy has long been recognized in man and in experimental ammals.’3 The explosion of the atomic bombs in Japan exposed two large human populations to single brief but massive doses of ionizing irradiation and subsequently a marked increase in leukemia among survivors was reported.4 ‘ The present study consists of a review of all cases of leukemia referred to the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commissioii from 1948 to April 1952 together with thirty-nine new cases, bringing the total to seventy-five established cases of leukemia occurring in atomic bomb survivors in Hiroshima and Nagasaki up to January 1 , 1953.

A Review of Forty-Five Years Study of Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Survivors II. BIOLOGICAL EFFECTS Atomic Bomb and Leukemia

Atomic bomb/Leukemia/Threshold/FAB classification/Chromosome Characteristic features of leukemia among atomic bomb survivors were studied. The ratio of a single leukemia type to all leukemias was highest for CML in Hiroshima, and the occurrence of CML was thought to be most characteristic for atomic bomb radiation induced leukemia. In the distribution of AML subtypes of FAB classification, ther...

Effects of radiation on the incidence of prostate cancer among Nagasaki atomic bomb survivors.

Atomic bomb survivors have been reported to have an increased risk of some cancers, especially leukemia. However, the risk of prostate cancer in atomic bomb survivors is not known to have been examined previously. This study examined the association between atomic bomb radiation and the incidence of prostate cancer among male Nagasaki atomic bomb survivors. The subjects were classified by dista...

Cytogenetic Instabilities in Atomic Bomb-Related Acute Myelocytic Leukemia Cells and in Hematopoietic Cells from Healthy Atomic Bomb Survivors

On August 6 and 9, 1945, nearly 65 years ago, atomic bombs (ABs) were dropped on two Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The explosive powers of these two bombs are said to be equal about 12.5 kilotons of TNT for Hiroshima bomb and 22 kilotons for Nagasaki bomb. The dissipation of energy is believed to have been in the ratios consisting of 50% of bomb blast, 35% of thermal rays and 15% of ...
