Absence of an effect of timolol on the pupil.

چکیده
Timolol, a relatively new beta-adrenergic blocker which has been found to lower the intraocular pressure in man, has not been observed to have any side effects upon the visual system. This study utilized pupillography to determine the effect of conjunctival instillation of 0.5% timolol ophthalmic solution upon pupillary size and reaction. No clinically significant effect was observed, but a statistically significant decrease in the amplitude of redilation of the pupil was found in the eye that received timolol.

Effect of Topical Anti-Glaucoma Medications on Late Pupillary Light Reflex, as Evaluated by Pupillometry
PURPOSE The late post-illumination pupillary response (PIPR 10-30s ) to blue light is reduced in glaucoma, suggesting that pupillometry can be used in clinical glaucoma evaluation. Since animal studies have indicated that common anti-glaucomatous agents affect the iris muscle, we investigated the short-term effect of the anti-glaucoma drugs on the pupillary light reflex and in particular on the...
متن کاملA blind randomised cross-over trial comparing metipranolol 0.3% with timolol 0.25% in open-angle glaucoma: a pilot study.
A blind randomised cross-over study was conducted on 10 patients (20 eyes) to compare the effect in patients with open-angle glaucoma of metipranolol 0.3% with that of timolol 0.25% on intraocular pressure following one month's topical instillation with each preparation alone. There was no statistically significant difference in intraocular pressure reduction between these two preparations, and...

Background and purpose: This is a study to compare the efficacy and side effects of betaxolol and timolol in lowering the IOP of primary open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Materials and Methods: This Double-blind randomized cross-over clinical trial was conducted on 29 eyes of 20 patients with primary open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Each patient received timolol 0.5% a...
متن کاملDoes Long-Term Administration of a Beta-Blocker (Timolol) Induce Fibril-Based Cataract Formation In-vivo?
Timolol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist administered for treating glaucoma, heart attacks and hypertension. In the present study, we set out to determine whether or not timolol can provoke cataract formation, thus the influence of timolol on the amyloid-type aggregation of crystallin was investigated. We then provided experimental evidence of crystallin aggregation and it...

Background and Aim: Oculomotor palsy (Third cranial nerve) in diabetic patients is presented with opthalmoplegia with pupil sparing. Other factors which can mimic third nerve palsy consist of compressive lesions such as posterior circulation aneurysm. Although these lesions are associated with opthalmoplegia with pupil involvement, in some cases pupil sparing is not a reliable symptom in ischem...
