Trends in Total Factor Productivity in Pakistan Agriculture Sector
نویسندگان
چکیده
Total factor productivity (TFP) has emerged as an important source of agriculture growth. However, this area remained neglected by researchers as well as policy makers in Pakistan. The studies which have estimated agriculture TFP growth in Pakistan are very few and they have tended to overstate it by ignoring the variation in capacity utilization, hours worked and improvement in labour productivity as a result of increased level of education and training. The present study has avoided this pitfall and has accurately measured TFP growth. According to this study, agriculture TFP in Pakistan has grown at an annual average rate of 0.28 percent which explains more than 7 percent of the growth of agriculture value added. The study recommends that TFP should be given proper attention by the government. Appropriate policy, such as diffusion of relevant information among the farmers, increased area under cultivation, and timely availability of fertilizer at affordable prices for the farmer, should be devised to accelerate TFP and value added growth in the agriculture sector of Pakistan.

Effect of Temporary and Permanent Shocks of Total Factor Productivity on the Demand for Agricultural Imports in Iran
Economic theories show that the direction and magnitude of the fluctuations of economic variables depend on the type and magnitude of the shocks they are faced with. Various reasons are noted for fluctuations in demands for imports, including productivity shocks. Accordingly, this research was aimed at identifying the effects of Total Factor Productivity (TFP) shocks of the agricultural sector ...

ABSTRACT-Due to the important role productivity plays in future decision making and programming, the productivity indexes should have accurate quantities. In this study, Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) methods are applied to time series of 1978-2008 to accurately measure total factor productivity (TFP) in the agricultural sector of Iran. The comparison of these...

Wheat is a major agricultural crop in the Sistan region with a key role in local economy. The present study aimed to economically explore the efficiency of wheat production over the 2014-2016 period with the window data envelopment analysis (WDEA) approach. Also, the Malmquist productivity index was employed to assess the productivity of wheat growers in the study site under variable return to ...
متن کاملAn International Comparison of Productivity Change in Agriculture and the Economy as a Whole, Using Production-Frontier Approa
A common and longstanding assumption in the economic growth literature has been that total factor productivity growth is lower in the agriculture sector than in the rest of the economy. Using a stochastic production frontier finite mixture model, labor productivity change is decomposed into catch-up, technological change and factor accumulation effects and stochastic shocks. This decomposition ...
متن کاملEstimating Total Factor Productivity of Agricultural Sector Based on Firm-Level Accounting Data
In this paper, we present a method to estimatethe productivity development of the Czech agricultural sector. While traditional productivity measures are based on macroeconomic data, we use individual accounting data of firms and determine the productivity development using the Fisher total factor productivity index. The results suggest that the development of agricultural sector is not highly s...
