Contrast sensitivity following amblyopia treatment in children.

چکیده
P rior studies have found a reduction in contrast sensitivity in eyes with amblyopia using sinusoidal gratings, whereas minimal loss has been reported with Pelli-Robson charts. Most studies have evaluated contrast sensitivity at the time of diagnosis of amblyopia or after short-term treatment. A follow-up study of an earlier randomized trial provided us the opportunity to evaluate contrast sensitivity using Pelli-Robson low-contrast letter charts at age 10 years, several years after treatment of amblyopia. Investigating the Relationship of Visual Treatment and Rehabilitation With the Quality of Life and Visual Status in Children With Diagnosed Amblyopia
Objectives: To assess the relationship between visual rehabilitation with the quality of life and visual status in children who had been diagnosed with amblyopia in the national amblyopia screening program. Methods: Information was gathered from optometric centers in the cities of Nowshahr, Chalus, and Kelardasht, or in case it was not available, from parents of participating children. The KIN...
متن کاملVisual functions and interocular interactions in anisometropic children with and without amblyopia.
PURPOSE In uncorrected anisometropia, protracted dichoptic stimulation may result in interocular inhibition, which may be a contributing factor in amblyopia development. This study investigates the relationship between interocular interactions and anisometropic amblyopia. METHODS Three visual functions (low-contrast acuity, contrast sensitivity, and alignment sensitivity) were measured in the...
متن کاملLearning to Identify Near-Acuity Letters, either with or without Flankers, Results in Improved Letter Size and Spacing Limits in Adults with Amblyopia
Amblyopia is a developmental abnormality that results in deficits for a wide range of visual tasks, most notably, the reduced ability to see fine details, the loss in contrast sensitivity especially for small objects and the difficulty in seeing objects in clutter (crowding). The primary goal of this study was to evaluate whether crowding can be ameliorated in adults with amblyopia through perc...
متن کاملThe challenges of developing a contrast-based video game for treatment of amblyopia
Perceptual learning of visual tasks is emerging as a promising treatment for amblyopia, a developmental disorder of vision characterized by poor monocular visual acuity. The tasks tested thus far span the gamut from basic psychophysical discriminations to visually complex video games. One end of the spectrum offers precise control over stimulus parameters, whilst the other delivers the benefits...
متن کاملTreatment of children with amblyopia by perceptual learning
Recent studies have shown that perceptual learning has the potential to treat amblyopia. In this study we tested whether a recent perceptual learning technique that improved visual functions in adults can be applied to improve the vision of children after the conventional treatment of patching has failed. A prospective clinical pilot study was carried out in children who were non-compliant with...
