چکیده
AIMS The importance of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) has been implicated in the process of plaque rupture. However, few previous studies demonstrated the relationship between plaque morphology and oxLDL. We evaluated the relationship between coronary plaque vulnerability assessed by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and circulating malondialdehyde-modified low-density lipoprotein (MDA-LDL). METHODS AND RESULTS OCT was used to determine plaque vulnerability in 102 patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS; n = 53) and stable angina pectoris (SAP; n = 49). Circulating levels of MDA-LDL were measured by using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Thin-cap fibroatheromas (TCFAs; defined as lipid-rich with plaque cap thickness <65 μm) were detected more frequently in ACS than in SAP (83% vs. 16%, P < 0.001). The circulating levels of MDA-LDL were significantly higher in patients with ACS compared with SAP (P = 0.008). The levels of MDA-LDL were significantly higher in SAP patients with TCFA than those with non-TCFA (P < 0.001). Although the levels of MDA-LDL were not significant between ACS patients with TCFA and those with non-TCFA, patients with ruptured TCFA had higher levels of MDA-LDL compared with those with morphologically intact TCFA (P = 0.023). MDA-LDL levels were associated with the presence of TCFA (odds ratio, 1.45 per 10-unit increment of MDA-LDL; 95% CI, 1.24-1.68; P< 0.001) in multivariable logistic regression analysis. CONCLUSION Circulating MDA-LDL levels might be associated with the presence of TCFA in the culprit lesion.

Sex Differences in Nonculprit Coronary Plaque Microstructures on Frequency-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography in Acute Coronary Syndromes and Stable Coronary Artery Disease.
BACKGROUND Numerous reports suggest sex-related differences in atherosclerosis. Frequency-domain optical coherence tomography has enabled visualization of plaque microstructures associated with disease instability. The prevalence of plaque microstructures between sexes has not been characterized. We investigated sex differences in plaque features in patients with coronary artery disease. METH...
متن کاملAnalysis of the association Hind III Polymorphism of Lipoprotein Lipase gene on the risk of coronary artery disease
Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the leading causes of death and disability around the world. Interaction between genetic and environmental factors determines susceptibility of an individual to develop coronary artery disease . Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) play an important role in the metabolism of HDL-C ( High Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol ), LDL-C (Low Density Lipoprotein Ch...
متن کاملRelationship between subclinical cardiac troponin I elevation and culprit lesion characteristics assessed by optical coherence tomography in patients undergoing elective percutaneous coronary intervention.
BACKGROUND The prevalence of subclinical, cardiac troponin I (cTnI) elevation in stable patients undergoing elective percutaneous coronary intervention and its relationship to culprit lesion characteristics assessed by optical coherence tomography (OCT) are unknown. METHODS AND RESULTS We studied 206 native de novo culprit coronary lesions from 206 patients with stable angina pectoris who und...
متن کاملThe association between small dense low density lipoprotein, apolipoprotein B, apolipoprotein B/apolipoprotein A1 ratio and coronary artery stenosis
Abstract Background: Recently, small dense low density lipoprotein (sdLDL) has been highlighted as a new risk factor for the coronary artery disease (CAD).Small dense LDLs are believed to be atherogenic since these particles are taken up more easily by arterial wall. They are readily oxidized and have reduced affinity for low density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor and increased affinity...
متن کاملRelationship between plasma inflammatory markers and plaque fibrous cap thickness determined by intravascular optical coherence tomography.
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between human plaque fibrous cap thickness detected by intravascular optical coherence tomography (OCT) and the plasma levels of inflammatory factors in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). METHODS AND RESULTS OCT was used to measure the fibrous cap thickness of coronary artery atherosclerotic plaques in patients wit...
