The evolution of bodies orbiting in the trans-Neptunian region on to intermediate-type orbits

چکیده
We investigate the dynamical evolution of 210 hypothetical massless bodies initially situated between 10 and 30 au from the Sun in order to determine the general characteristics of the evolved system. This is of particular relevance to the understanding of the origin of Edgeworth±Kuiper belt objects on scattered intermediate orbits, such as 1996TL66, which have high eccentricity and semimajor axis but nevertheless have perihelion in the region between 30 and 50 au from the Sun.

Migration of small bodies and dust to the terrestrial planets
We integrated the orbital evolution of 30,000 Jupiter-family comets, 1300 resonant asteroids, and 7000 asteroidal, trans-Neptunian, and cometary dust particles. For initial orbital elements of bodies close to those of Comets 2P, 10P, 44P, and 113P, a few objects got Earthcrossing orbits with semi-major axes a<2 AU and moved in such orbits for more than 1 Myr (up to tens or even hundreds of Myrs...
متن کاملDynamics of the Edgeworth{kuiper Objects Trans Neptunian Planets and Comets
The recently discovered Edgeworth{Kuiper Objects (EKO) have orbits in a region of the phase space whose dynamics had previously been investigated, either in connection with Pluto or seeking for stable regions for surviving primordial material. The theories are adequate to explain, and predict, the stability regions, and also to constrain theories on the origin of these bodies. To the contrary, ...
متن کاملFormation and Evolution of the Trans-neptunian Belt and Dust
Trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) with diameter greater than 100 km currently moving in not too eccentric orbits could be formed directly by the contraction of large rarefied condensations. Along with the gravitational influence of planets, gravitational interactions of TNOs played a certain role in their orbital evolution as well. More than 20% of Earth-crossing objects could have come from the t...
متن کاملFormation and Migration of Trans-neptunian Objects and Asteroids
The evolution of thousands of orbits of Jupiter-family comets and asteroids under the gravitational influence of planets was calculated. Comparison of the results obtained by a symplectic method with those obtained by direct integration showed that a symplectic method is not always good for investigations of the orbital evolution of such bodies. Basing on the results of orbital evolution of bod...
متن کاملActive Asteroids: Mystery in the Main Belt
Classically, comets from the outer solar system (beyond the orbit of Neptune), are expected to be icy, and thus active near the Sun, while asteroids in the inner solar system (interior to the orbit of Jupiter) are expected to be relatively ice-deficient, and thus inert. Studies of anomalous objects, most recently 133P/Elst-Pizarro, challenge this classical picture, however, and suggest that eit...
