چکیده

All optical buffering within high-speed optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) based networks is becoming a necessity. In this paper, an active all-optical recirculating fibre loop buffer (RFLB) employing an alloptical regenerator to compensate for pulse distortion is introduced. The OTDM pulse shape is soliton and the data rate used is 20 Gb/s. Simulation results for the bit error rate (BER) performance for different regeneration periods are presented.

All-Optical Packet Buffering for OTDM Networks

In this paper, we investigate the performance of passive and active recirculating fibre loop buffers (RFLB) in an optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) network employing soliton pulse shape. Both standard fibre and dispersion shifted fibre (DSF) are considered. Further to previous work [1], it is no longer assumed that switching mechanism is ideal, and both insertion loss and crosstalk are ...

Buffering in All-Optical Packet-Switching

The role of optical buffering in the development of all-optical cross-connects is discussed, followed by an analysis of fibre delay line implementations in optical buffers. It is shown that the traffic model plays an important part in the analyses of the systems, together with the traffic load, the use of internal buffer wavelengths, and the cross-connect architecture. Travelling buffers have s...

Simulation of the Passive Recirculating Fiber Loop Buffer

The current trends within ultra high-speed optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) based communication systems dictate the increasing need for all optical buffering systems. Such systems inherently avoid the bottlenecks associated with optoelectrical (O/E) and electro-optical conversions (E/O). These buffers would enable the storage of data for discrete time intervals, and are necessary for ma...

Bit error rate analysis of an all-optical buffer employed in a soliton based optical time division multiplexed transmission system

In this paper, we compare the theoretical and simulated bit error rate (BER) performance of an all-optical active recirculating fibre loop buffer (RFLB) employed at the transmitter node of an optical time division multiplexed based (OTDM) system, for several buffer storage times (delays). To the best of our knowledge, we believe that this is the first time a theoretical model detailing BER perf...

40 Gbit=s Transmission and Cascaded All-optical Wavelength Conversion over 1 000 000 Km

Introduction: All-optical wavelength converters (AOWC) are envisioned to be part of future high-speed networks. In particular, they might replace optical-to-electrical-to-optical (OEO) wavelength translator units in optical crossconnects [1]. However, to be practical, AOWCs must be able to convert signals that have been degraded during transmission over reasonable distances. Tolerance to timing...
