Ultra-Wideband Transceivers for Cochlear Implants
نویسندگان
چکیده
Ultra-wideband (UWB) radio offers low power consumption, low power spectral density, high immunity against interference, and other benefits, not only for consumer electronics, but also for medical devices. A cochlear implant (CI) is an electronic hearing apparatus, requiring a wireless link through human tissue. In this paper we propose an UWB link for a data rate of 1.2Mbps and a propagation distance up to 500mm. Transmitters with step recovery diode and transistor pulse generators are proposed. Two types of antennas and their filter characteristics in the UWB spectrum will be discussed. An ultra-low-power back tunnel diode receiver prototype is described and compared with conventional detector receivers.

Poster Abstract: Combining Positioning & Communication Using Ultra Wideband Transceivers
A new generation of ultra wide band (UWB) communication transceivers are becoming available that supports both positioning and communication tasks. Transceiver manufacturers envision that communication and positioning features are used separately and asymmetrically. We believe that this is an unnecessary restriction of the available hardware and that positioning and communication tasks can be a...
متن کاملThrough-Wall Person Localization Using Transceivers in Motion
We develop novel methods for device-free localization (DFL) using transceivers in motion. Such localization technologies are useful in various cross-layer applications/protocols including those that are related to security situations where it is important to: know the presence and position of an unauthorized person; monitor the daily activities of elderly or special needs individuals; or gain s...
متن کاملOutage Probability Bound and Diversity Gain for Ultra-Wideband Multiple-Access Relay Channels with Correlated Noises
In this paper, Ultra-wideband (UWB) multiple access relay channel with correlated noises at the relay and receiver is investigated. We obtain outer and inner bounds for the IEEE 802.15.3a UWB multiple access relay channel, and also, a diversity gain bound. Finally, we evaluate some results numerically and show that noise correlation coefficients play important role in determining relay position.
متن کاملSubthreshold Frequency Synthesis for Implantable Medical Transceivers
Implantable medical devices (IMDs) have evolved greatly since the first pacemaker was designed in the 1950s. The current generation of IMDs are capable of replacing damaged or malfunctioning organs, and are designed for long-term patient care. Cochlear implants, which differ greatly from hearing aids, convert received audio signals to electrical impulses and are capable of bypassing damaged par...
