چکیده

Various papers on modeling the traffic of a network have been proposed. Amongst these, the most popular is the Effective Bandwidth based modeling by Kelly. An alternative proposal was recently made by Addie et al, and it is based on the Gaussian modeling approach. In this paper, we incorporated the two models into our Connection Admission Control (CAC) procedures. Hence, the admission decisions are made based on the equivalent bandwidth computed by the model. In addition, we added two measurement-based alternatives of the above-mentioned models. Therefore in this paper, we will make utilization comparisons between one a priori based approach and two measurement-based approaches. To model a source’s activity durations, we used an ON/OFF model based technique. By varying only the mean active and inactive durations of the connection, we are able to alter the aggregated traffic intensity in the link. Hence, the effectiveness of the CAC procedures in handling such varied traffic load will also be studied.

Using Mran for Call Admission Control of Atm Networks in Opnet

This paper explores the use of OPNET to introduce a neural network Call Admission Control scheme in ATM networks to improve traffic management. The advanced capability of modeling traffic sources in OPNET was employed to depict a realistic ATM network model. The conventional CAC algorithm was explored under various traffic scenarios built using profiles based on varied traffic statistical distr...

Admission Control with Type-Specific Overbooking

Experience-based admission control (EBAC) is a hybrid approach combining the classical parameter-based and measurement-based admission control schemes. EBAC calculates an appropriate overbooking factor used to overbook link capacities with resource reservations in packet-based networks. This overbooking factor correlates with the average peak-to-mean rate ratio of all admitted traffic flows on ...

Admission and Traffic Control Schemes Suitable for QoS Applications in WLAN Systems

This paper proposes the use of admission and traffic control schemes for real-time applications. The admission control scheme determines the admission of high-priority real-time applications such as voice and video streams in terms of their bandwidth utilization time (medium time), whereas the traffic control scheme maintains the communication quality of applications permitted admission by rest...

Impact of Traffic Matrix and Routing on the Performance of Network Admission Control Methods

In this paper we consider the performance of different network admission control (NAC) methods. In contrast to link admission control (LAC), they limit the traffic within a network by distributed protocols. We introduce four basic budget based NAC approaches such that most resource management schemes can be classified by them from a performance point of view. Since they have different complexit...

Simple Measurement-based Connection Admission Control for Heterogeneous Traffic Sources

The primary role of traffic control in multimedia networks is to protect the network and the user in order to achieve predefined network performance objectives, e.g. cell loss ratio. An additional role is to optimize the use of network resources for the purpose of achieving realistic network efficiency. The challenge is to design simple control functions that improve efficiency under any traffi...
