Multiprobe impedance measurement system for nondestructive evaluation and test of "green state" powder metallurgy parts

چکیده
This paper describes an instrument capable of detecting flaws in "green-state" (prior to sintering) powder metallurgy (P/M) parts. The instrument uses a matrix of impedance measurements from a multiprobe array which contacts the surface of the P/M part. The array of measured data is processed to not only detect the presence of flaws, but also determine their location, size, and orientation. Experimental results show detection of flaws ranging in s i ze from 10μm to 200μm.

متن کاملDesign of Nondestructive System for Hardness of Carbonitrided Steel Parts Using Eddy Current Testing Method: Case study on the Tappet Parts
In this paper, a non-destructive eddy current test system was designed to evaluate the surface hardness of the carbonitrided steel parts. For this purpose, various samples of the tappet were used after the surface hardening and grinding operations as control samples and, if necessary, were subjected to destructive and non-destructive tests. Microstructural studies were performed with a microsco...
متن کاملQUALITY CONTROL OF PRECIPITATION HARDENED ALUMINIUM ALLOY PARTS VIA EDDY-CURRENT NONDESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION
Precipitation hardening is the most common method in the strengthening of aluminium alloys. This method relies on the decrease of solid solubility with temperature reduction to produce fine precipitations which impede the movement of dislocations. The quality control of aluminium alloy specimens is an important concern of engineers. Among different methods, non-destructive techniques are the...
متن کاملA Review of Nondestructive Testing Methods and Their Applicability to Powder Metallurgy Processing
The problem of forming defects in green parts during compaction and ejection has become more prevalent as parts producers have started to use higher compaction pressures in an effort to achieve high density, high performance P/M steels. In this review, several nondestructive inspection methods are evaluated, with the aim of identifying those, which are practical for detecting defects as early i...
متن کاملVisualized Multiprobe Electrical Impedance Measurements with STM Tips Using Shear Force Feedback Control
Here we devise a multiprobe electrical measurement system based on quartz tuning forks (QTFs) and metallic tips capable of having full 3D control over the position of the probes. The system is based on the use of bent tungsten tips that are placed in mechanical contact (glue-free solution) with a QTF sensor. Shear forces acting in the probe are measured to control the tip-sample distance in the...
