High signal intensity on T2 weighted cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: Is it a marker of myocardial injury?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Previous studies observed the phenomenon of high signal intensity on T2 -weighted image of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). However, the underlying histopathologic mechanism is unclear. Elevated cardiac troponin can be detected in some HCM patients. A reasonable hypothesis is that myocardial T2-high signals is a potential marker of myocaridal injury in HCM. We sought to investigate the association between cardiac troponin and the extent of T2high signals in HCM patients.

T2-Weighted Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Edema in Myocardial Diseases
The purpose of this paper is to describe imaging techniques and findings of T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of edema in myocardial diseases. T2-weighted cardiac MRI is acquired by combining acceleration techniques with motion and signal suppression techniques. The MRI findings should be interpreted based on coronary artery supply, intramural distribution, and comparison with delaye...
متن کاملEvaluation of tissue doppler echocardiography and T2* magnetic resonance imaging in iron load of patients with thalassemia major
Background: Iron-mediated cardiomyopathy is the main complication of thalassemia major (TM) patients. Therefore, there is an important clinical need in the early diagnosis and risk stratification of patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of tissue doppler imaging (TDI) to study cardiac iron overload in patients with TM using T2* magnetic resonance (MR) as the gold-standard...

متن کاملT2 abnormalities in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy characterized by cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging- an indicator of myocardial injury as assessed by the high sensitive cardiac troponin T assay
To test the hypothesis that myocardial hyperintensities on T2 weighted imaging in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) reflect ongoing myocardial injury, the cardiacspecific biomarker troponin T was measured by a new highly sensitive assay (hs-cTnT). In 52 patients with HCM, the presence and extent of myocardial T2 abnormalities were associated with hs-cTnT levels. The number of LV s...
متن کاملDiagnostic performance of T2-weighted CMR for evaluation of acute myocardial injury
Background Edema-sensitive T2-weighted cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) based on fast spin-echo (FSE) imaging is a useful modality to detect acute myocardial injury. Conventional T2-weighted CMR uses three inversion-recovery (IR) pulses, the first two to null the blood signal, and the last one (STIR) to null fat signal, but suffers from reduced myocardial signal and signal dropout. We compared ...
