چکیده

In the present experiment we investigated the importance of velocity information during a lane-centering task between the walls of a simulated tunnel. We v aried both simulated velocity and the spatial frequency content of the walls' surfaces, in order to address the innuence of each parameter on steering performance. Further, this performance was compared to the eeectiveness of lateral control using lane border information. We found that drivers used both velocity and spatial frequency information to maintain a centered position on a path, and that the presence of lane borders improved accuracy. The results suggest that multiple sources of visual information, rather than mere demarcating lines, are used for lateral control on a straight path.

Flexible models of object classes, based on linear combinations of prototypical images, are capable of matching novel images of the same class and have been shown to be a powerful tool to solve several fundamental vision tasks such as recognition, synthesis and correspondence. The key problem in creating a speciic exible model is the computation of pixelwise correspondence between the prototype...

We applied a standard facial caricaturing algorithm to a three-dimensional representation of human heads. This algorithm sometimes produced heads that appeared \caricatured". More commonly, however, exaggerating the distinctive three-dimensional information in a face seemed to produce an increase in the apparent age of the face | both at a local level, by exaggerating small facial creases into ...

The usage of landmark information in a route navigation task is investigated in a virtual environment. After learning a route, subjects were released at intermediate points along the route and asked to indicate the next movement direction required to continue the route. At each decision point, three landmarks were present, one of which was viewed centrally and two which appeared in the peripher...
