Stroop Facilitation in Tinnitus Patients: An Experiment Conducted via the World Wide Web
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cognitive mechanisms have been proposed to play an important role in tinnitus. In the present study, tinnitus participants were administered an emotional Stroop test via the Internet, incorporating words related to tinnitus concerns. In line with previous research using this Web-based version of the emotional Stroop test, faster color naming was demonstrated for concern-relevant words relative to neutral words. The present results thus provided support for a role for cognitive factors that are important for the understanding of tinnitus. However, future research is warranted in order to clarify the precise mechanisms involved in tinnitusrelated Stroop effects.

Tinnitus- related distress: evidence from fMRI of an emotional stroop task
BACKGROUND Chronic tinnitus affects 5 % of the population, 17 % suffer under the condition. This distress seems mainly to be dependent on negative cognitive-emotional evaluation of the tinnitus and selective attention to the tinnitus. A well-established paradigm to examine selective attention and emotional processing is the Emotional Stroop Task (EST). Recent models of tinnitus distress propose...
متن کاملEffect of Ossicular Reconstruction on Tinnitus
Background and Objective:Tinnitus is hearing a sound without an external source, which occurs anywhere in the head and one or both ears. It is one of the most common symptoms associated with hearing loss due to chronic otitis media. This study aimed to determine the effect of autologous primary ossicular reconstruction on the recovery of tinnitus due to chronic otitis media. Materials and Meth...
متن کاملAttention and facilitation: converging information versus inadvertent reading in Stroop task performance.
Disagreement exists about whether color-word Stroop facilitation is caused by converging information (e.g., Cohen et al., 1990; Roelofs, 2003) or inadvertent reading (MacLeod & MacDonald, 2000). Four experiments tested between these hypotheses by examining Stroop effects on response time (RT) both within and between languages. Words cannot be read aloud to produce facilitation between languages...
متن کاملTraining on integrated versus separated Stroop tasks: the progression of interference and facilitation.
Two experiments examined the course of interference and facilitation in the Stroop (1935) task during training. Two versions of the task were compared: integrated (e.g., the word RED in the color green) and separated (e.g., green asterisks above the word RED). Stimuli were congruent (RED in red), incongruent (GREEN in red), or neutral (XXX in red). Over 5-day (Experiment 1) and 10-day (Experime...
متن کاملA key role of the prefrontal cortex in the maintenance of chronic tinnitus: An fMRI study using a Stroop task
Introduction Since we recently showed in behavioural tasks that the top-down cognitive control was specifically altered in tinnitus sufferers, here we wanted to establish the link between this impaired executive function and brain alterations in the frontal cortex in tinnitus patients. Method Using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), we monitored the brain activity changes in sixtee...
