چکیده

BILATERAL ligation of the internal mammary arteries was proposed by Fieschi as a simple surgical means of treating patients with coronary artery disease. The procedure aims to increase the blood pressure in the pericardiophrenic branches of the internal mammary arteries and, thereby enhancing coronary anastomoses to the myocardium. Observations made on patients have been conflicting,' as have the data based on animal experiments.' ' 4 These experiments were therefore designed to test whether bilateral internal mammary ligation actually improves the collateral arterial blood supply to the myocardium of the dog subsequent to surgical narrowing of a coronary artery and to assess the effect of internal mammary artery occlusion on central internal mammary arterial pressure.

Protocol for the Arterial Revascularisation Trial (ART). A randomised trial to compare survival following bilateral versus single internal mammary grafting in coronary revascularisation [ISRCTN46552265]

BACKGROUND Standard coronary artery bypass graft surgery uses a single internal mammary artery and supplemental vein or radial artery grafts. Several observational studies have suggested a survival benefit with two internal mammary artery grafts compared to a single internal mammary artery graft, but this has not been tested in a randomised trial. The Arterial Revascularisation Trial is a Medic...

Internal mammary artery versus autogenous vein for coronary artery bypass graft.

Aortocoronary venous graft (ACVG) and internal mammary artery graft (IMAG) are currently the two most popular choices for coronary artery bypass. The morphologic alteration and susceptibility to atheromatous degeneration of the IMAG were compared with the ACVG. Six of 12 surviving dogs with IMAGs were fed a hyperlipidemic diet and six were placed on a regular diet. All dogs were sacrificed 3-15...

Mast Cell distribution and micro-anatomical location after bilateral uterine artery ligation in mature rabbits

To determine the effect of bilateral uterine artery ligation (BUAL) on mast cell (MC) distribution, 24 mature female rabbits were studied. The rabbits were ovariohysterectomized on day 23, 43 or 63 following BUAL. Histological sections were stained with toluidine blue to determine the MC distribution. In rabbits that had undergone BUAL, MCs were present extensively in the helium of the treated ...

Evaluation of procedure designed to enhance coronary collateral blood flow.

• The high incidence of coronary artery disease in man has prompted extensive research efforts in the direction of improving blood flow to the heart muscle. Attempts to achieve this goal have taken many forms and may be summarized as follows: (1) scarifying procedures designed to encourage the growth of new vascular channels into the heart from extracardiac sources; (2) retrograde perfusion of ...

Creation of anastomoses between an extracardiac artery and the coronary circulation. Proof that myocardial angiogenesis occurs and can provide nutritional blood flow to the myocardium.

The purpose of this investigation was to determine whether blood vessels could develop de novo between an extracardiac artery and a collateral-dependent zone of the heart and to quantify the nutritive blood flow afforded by the new vessels. We also adapted the preparation so that angiogenically active agents could be chronically administered directly to the site of neovascularization in subsequ...
