چکیده

Transformation theory is developed for the equations of linear anisotropic elasticity. The transformed equations correspond to non-unique material properties that can be varied for a given transformation by selection of the matrix relating displacements in the two descriptions. This gauge matrix can be chosen to make the transformed density isotropic for any transformation although the stress in the transformed material is not generally symmetric. Symmetric stress is obtained only if the gauge matrix is identical to the transformation matrix, in agreement with Milton et al.. The elastic transformation theory is applied to the case of cylindrical anisotropy. The equations of motion for the transformed material with isotropic density are expressed in Stroh format, suitable for modeling cylindrical elastic cloaking. It is shown that there is a preferred approximate material with symmetric stress that could be a useful candidate for making cylindrical elastic cloaking devices.

Mechanical cloak design by direct lattice transformation.

Spatial coordinate transformations have helped simplifying mathematical issues and solving complex boundary-value problems in physics for decades already. More recently, material-parameter transformations have also become an intuitive and powerful engineering tool for designing inhomogeneous and anisotropic material distributions that perform wanted functions, e.g., invisibility cloaking. A nec...

Acoustic cloaking transformations from attainable material properties

We propose a general methodology and a set of practical recipes for the construction of ultra-broadband acoustic cloaks—structures that can render themselves and a concealed object undetectable by means of acoustic scattering. The acoustic cloaks presented here are designed and function analogously to electromagnetic cloaks. However, acoustic cloaks in a fluid medium do not suffer the bandwidth...

Employing pre-stress to generate finite cloaks for antiplane elastic waves

It is shown that nonlinear elastic pre-stress of neo-Hookean hyperelastic materials can be used as a mechanism to generate finite cloaks and thus render objects near-invisible to incoming antiplane elastic waves. This approach appears to negate the requirement for special cloaking metamaterials with inhomogeneous and anisotropic material properties in this case. These properties are induced nat...

Special transformations for pentamode acoustic cloaking.

The acoustic cloaking theory of Norris [Proc. R. Soc. London, Ser. A 464, 2411-2434 (2008)] permits considerable freedom in choosing the transformation f from physical to virtual space. The standard process for defining cloak materials is to first define f and then evaluate whether the materials are practically realizable. In this paper, this process is inverted by defining desirable material p...

Add-on unidirectional elastic metamaterial plate cloak

Metamaterial cloaks control the propagation of waves to make an object invisible or insensible. To manipulate elastic waves in space, a metamaterial cloak is typically embedded in a base system that includes or surrounds a target object. The embedding is undesirable because it structurally weakens or permanently alters the base system. In this study, we propose a new add-on metamaterial elastic...
