An Augmented Projection Method for the Incompressible Navier-stokes Equations in Arbitrary Domains

چکیده
A Cartesian grid method for computing flows with complex immersed, stationary and moving boundaries is presented. We introduce an augmented projection method for the numerical solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in arbitrary domains. In a projection method an intermediate velocity field is calculated from the momentum equations, which is then projected onto the space of divergence-free vector fields. In the proposed augmented projection method, we add one more step, which effectively eliminates spurious velocity field caused by complex immersed moving boundaries. The methodology is validated by comparing it with analytic, previous numerical and experimental results.

A semi-implicit augmented IIM for Navier-Stokes equations with open and traction boundary conditions
In this paper, a new Navier-Stokes solver based on a finite difference approximation is proposed to solve incompressible flows on irregular domains with open and traction boundary conditions, which can be applied to simulations of fluid structure interaction, implicit solvent model for biomolecular applications and other free boundary or interface problems. For this type of problem, the project...
متن کاملA well-conditioned augmented system for solving Navier-Stokes equations in irregular domains
An augmented method based on a Cartesian grid is proposed for the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations in irregular domains. The irregular domain is embedded into a rectangular one so that a fast Poisson solver can be utilized in the projection method. Unlike several methods suggested in the literature that set the force strengths as unknowns, which often results in an ill-conditioned linear ...

In this follow-up of our previous work [Zhang et. al., A fourth-order accurate finitevolume method with structured adaptive mesh refinement for solving the advectiondiffusion equation, SIAM J. Sci. Fourth-order...
متن کاملAn accurate and efficient method for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations using the projection method as a preconditioner
The projection method is a widely used fractional-step algorithm for solving the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. Despite numerous improvements to the methodology, however, imposing physical boundary conditions with projection-based fluid solvers remains difficult, and obtaining high-order accuracy may not be possible for some choices of boundary conditions. In this work, we present an u...
متن کاملTurbulent Flow over Cars
In this paper the flow behaviour over a number of car bodies is studied. For this purpose the unsteady 2-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations have been applied. After averaging and nondimensionalizing the equations, the system of equations has been transformed from the Cartesian (x-y) coordinates to a body fitted generalized (-) coordinate. As the flow is incompressible, the density in the ...
