Embryonic Sex Differentiation and Sex Hormones (1947), by Carl R. Moore

چکیده
In 1947, Carl Richard Moore, a researcher at the University of Chicago [6], in Chicago, Illinois, wrote Embryonic Sex Differentiation and Sex Hormones, which was published in the same year as a first-edition monograph. In the book, Moore argues that regulation [7] of sex differentiation [8] in mammals is not controlled by sex hormones [9] secreted by embryonic sex organs (gonads), but is controlled by non-hormonal genetic factors. In support of his hypothesis, Moore describes the current literature on sex differentiation [8], and he reviews experiments on vertebrates and invertebrates and his own work with opossum [10] (Didelphis virginiana [11]) young.

Carl Richard Moore (1892-1955)
Carl Richard Moore studied sex hormones [3] in animals in the US from 1916 until his death in 1955. Moore focused on the role of hormones [4] on sex differentiation [5] in animals, the optimal conditions under which males produce sperm [6], and the effects of vasectomy or testicular implants on male sex hormone [7] production. Moore's experiments to create hermaphrodites in the laboratory contr...
متن کاملSex Reversal in Birds.
Sexual differentiation in birds is controlled genetically as in mammals, although the sex chromosomes are different. Males have a ZZ sex chromosome constitution, while females are ZW. Gene(s) on the sex chromosomes must initiate gonadal sex differentiation during embryonic life, inducing paired testes in ZZ individuals and unilateral ovaries in ZW individuals. The traditional view of avian sexu...
متن کاملI-43: Identification of SOX3 as an XX MaleSex Reversal Gene in Mice and Jumans
Background: Mammals utilise an XX/XY system of sex determination in which the Y-linked gene SRY (Sexdetermining region Y) exerts a dominant masculinising influence on sexual development. Sex chromosome homology and comparative sequence studies suggest that SRY evolved from the related SOX3 gene on the X chromosome, although there is no direct functional evidence to support this hypothesis. The ...
متن کاملSex steroid dynamics during embryogenesis and sexual differentiation in Eurasian perch, Perca fluviatilis.
It is widely accepted that sex steroid hormones play an important and a specific role during the process of sex differentiation in fish. In order to describe the role of the three main sex steroid hormones (testosterone--T, 17beta-estradiol--E2 and 11keto-testosterone--11KT) during embryogenesis and sex differentiation in Eurasian perch, Perca fluviatilis, eggs, larvae and juveniles originating...
متن کاملP-86: Protective Effect of Vitamin C and Royal Jelly on Sex Hormones on Phenylhydrazine Treated Adult Male Mice
Background: Phenylhydrazine (PHZ) is used to induce experimental anemia in animal models. On the other hand royal jelly is known as antioxidant compound. Therefore, here in present study we aimed to evaluate the protective effect of royal jelly on PHZ-induced damages in testicular tissue and compare its impact with vitamin C. Materials and Methods: Eighteen mature male mice were randomly divide...
