Giant cavernous aneurysm associated with trigeminal artery: treatment by detachable balloon.

چکیده
Giant aneurysms of the cavernous internal carotid artery have been technically difficult to treat by direct surgical methods because of the surrounding cavernous sinus. Previous reports have recommended treatment of these symptomatic giant aneurysms by gradual cervical carotid artery occlusion utilizing a Selverstone or Kindt clamp [1-6]. With recent technical advances it is now possible to treat some intracranial aneurysms by detachable balloon embolization techniques [7-10] . We report the successful intravascular embolization of a giant cavernous carotid aneurysm, which was distal to a trigeminal artery.

Persistent Trigeminal Artery with a Cerebellar Branch and Trigeminal-Cavernous Fistula from Ruptured Aneurysm: Transarterial Coil Embolization
common internal carotid artery (ICA) -basilar artery anastomosis with an incidence between 0.1% and 0.3% (1). Anomalous cerebellar artery originating from the PTA has rarely been reported (2, 3). Rarely when an aneurysm is combined and ruptures into the cavernous sinus, spontaneous trigeminal-cavernous fistula can develop, which is usually treated by transarterial detachable balloon embolizatio...
متن کاملBacterial cavernous sinus aneurysm treated by detachable balloon technique.
We describe a patient who developed bilateral cavernous sinus septic thrombosis secondary to a suppurative lesion on the left cheek. Despite clinical improvement, left oculomotor symptoms recurred suddenly. A carotid artery aneurysm within the cavernous sinus was diagnosed by means of magnetic resonance imaging and confirmed by digital angiography. Follow-up angiograms showed an initial decreas...
متن کاملDetachable balloon embolization: concomitant use of a second safety balloon.
We describe a relatively unusual case of carotid cavernous fistula in association with a persistent trigeminal artery, presumably related to aneurysm rupture near the carotid origin of the vessel. We emphasize the use of a second, nondetachable balloon solely for the purpose of stabilizing placement of the first device at the time of detachment.
متن کاملCerebrovascular occlusion by catheterization and embolization: clinical experience.
Intravascular occlusion by various catheterization techniques was used to treat 27 cases of carotid-cavernous fistula, giant intracavernous aneurysm, and cerebral or dural arteriovenous malformation. Several case reports are presented. The detachable balloon technique proved valuable in the treatment of traumatic carotid-cavernous fistula and giant aneurysm. Calibrated-leak balloon catheterizat...
متن کاملVariant of Persistent Primitive Trigeminal Artery Associated with Giant Internal Carotid Artery Pseudoaneurysm
We report a rare variation of the left persistent primitive trigeminal artery with direct anastomosis with the ipsilateral posterior cerebral artery in a 53-year-old women. She was sent to the hospital with visual deterioration and consciousness disturbance (Glasgow coma scale = E4V3M5). Marked hydrocephalus was found. An associated giant pseudoaneurysm was shown arising from the cisternal segm...
