چکیده

We present results from a study of X-shaped sources based on observations using the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT). These observations were motivated by our low frequency study of 3C 223.1 (Lal & Rao 2005), an X-shaped radio source, which showed that the wings (or low-surface-brightness jets) have flatter spectral indices than the active lobes (or high-surface-brightness jets), a result not easily explained by most models. We have now obtained GMRT data at 240 and 610 MHz for almost all the known X-shaped radio sources and have studied the distribution of the spectral index across the sources. While the radio morphologies of all the sources at 240 and 610 MHz show the characteristicX-shape, the spectral characteristics of the X-shaped radio sources, seem to fall into three categories, namely, sources in which (A) the wings have flatter spectral indices than the active lobes, (B) the wings and the active lobes have comparable spectral indices, and (C) the wings have steeper spectral indices than the active lobes. We discuss the implications of the new observational results on the various formation models that have been proposed for X-shaped sources.

The nature of the prompt X - ray and radio emission from SN 2002 ap ⋆

We report on the combined X-ray and radio observations of the type Ic SN2002ap, using XMMNewton TOO observation of M74 and the Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT). We account for the presence of a nearby source in the pre-supernova Chandra field of view in our measurements of the X-ray flux (0.3 10 KeV) 5.2 days after the explosion. The X-ray spectrum is well fitted by a power law spectrum w...

GMRT observations of the field of INTEGRAL X-ray sources- I

The INTEGRAL observatory has discovered a variety of hard X-ray sources in the Galactic plane since its launch. Using GMRT, we have made repeated observations of these sources to search for the radio counterparts of seventeen of them at low frequencies. The source positions were taken from the various ATEL and IAUC reporting their discovery. Possible radio counterparts for seven of these source...

We present the GMRT 235 MHz images of three radio galaxies and 610 MHz images of two sources belonging to a complete sample of cD galaxies in rich and poor galaxy clusters. The analysis of the spectral properties confirms the presence of aged radio emission in two of the presented sources.

Radio observations of ZwCl 2341.1+0000: a double radio relic cluster

Context. Hierarchal models of large scale structure (LSS) formation predict that galaxy clusters grow via gravitational infall and mergers of (smaller) mass concentrations, such as clusters and galaxy groups. Diffuse radio emission, in the form of radio halos and relics, is found in clusters undergoing a merger, indicating that shocks or turbulence associated with the merger are capable of acce...

Low frequency radio monitoring of Cygnus X - 1 and Cygnus X - 3

We present results of monitoring observations of the micro-quasars CygnusX-1 and CygnusX-3 at 0.61 and 1.28GHz. The observations were performed with Giant Meter-wave Radio Telescope, GMRT, between 2003 June and 2005 January. Variable, unresolved sources were found in both cases. CygX-1 was detected in about half of the observations, with a median flux density about 7mJy at each frequency. The r...
