Bayesian inferences on umbrella orderings.

چکیده
In regression applications with categorical predictors, interest often focuses on comparing the null hypothesis of homogeneity to an ordered alternative. This article proposes a Bayesian approach for addressing this problem in the setting of normal linear and probit regression models. The regression coefficients are assigned a conditionally conjugate prior density consisting of mixtures of point masses at 0 and truncated normal densities, with a (possibly unknown) changepoint parameter included to accommodate umbrella ordering. Two strategies of prior elicitation are considered: (1) a Bayesian Bonferroni approach in which the probability of the global null hypothesis is specified and local hypotheses are considered independent; and (2) an approach which treats these probabilities as random. A single Gibbs sampling chain can be used to obtain posterior probabilities for the different hypotheses and to estimate regression coefficients and predictive quantities either by model averaging or under the preferred hypothesis. The methods are applied to data from a carcinogenesis study.

A One-Stage Two-Machine Replacement Strategy Based on the Bayesian Inference Method
In this research, we consider an application of the Bayesian Inferences in machine replacement problem. The application is concerned with the time to replace two machines producing a specific product; each machine doing a special operation on the product when there are manufacturing defects because of failures. A common practice for this kind of problem is to fit a single distribution to the co...
متن کاملThe Wisdom of Crowds in the Recollection of Order Information
When individuals independently recollect events or retrieve facts from memory, how can we aggregate these retrieved memories to reconstruct the actual set of events or facts? In this research, we report the performance of individuals in a series of general knowledge tasks, where the goal is to reconstruct from memory the order of historic events , or the order of items along some physical dimen...
متن کاملThe Analysis of Bayesian Probit Regression of Binary and Polychotomous Response Data
The goal of this study is to introduce a statistical method regarding the analysis of specific latent data for regression analysis of the discrete data and to build a relation between a probit regression model (related to the discrete response) and normal linear regression model (related to the latent data of continuous response). This method provides precise inferences on binary and multinomia...
متن کاملBayesian reference analysis for exponential power regression models
We develop Bayesian reference analyses for linear regression models when the errors follow an exponential power distribution. Specifically, we obtain explicit expressions for reference priors for all the six possible orderings of the model parameters and show that, associated with these six parameters orderings, there are only two reference priors. Further, we show that both of these reference ...
متن کاملSome New Results on Stochastic Orderings between Generalized Order Statistics
In this paper we specify the conditions on the parameters of pairs of gOS’s under which the corresponding generalized order statistics are ordered according to usual stochastic ordering, hazard rate ordering, likelihood ratio ordering and dispersive ordering. We consider this problem in one-sample as well as two-sample problems. We show that some of the results obtained by Franco et al. ...
