Blind and semi-blind equalization for generalized space-time block codes

چکیده
This paper presents a general framework for space-time codes (STCs) that encompasses a number of recently proposed STC schemes as special cases. The STCs considered are block codes that employ arbitrary redundant linear precoding of a given data sequence together with embedded training symbols, if any. The redundancy introduced by the linear precoding imposes structure on the received data that under certain conditions can be exploited for blind or semi-blind estimation of the transmitted sequence, a linear receiver that recovers the sequence, or both simultaneously. Algorithms based on this observation are developed for the single-user flat-fading case and then extended to handle multiple users, frequency-selective fading, as well as situations where the channel is rank deficient, or there are fewer receive than transmit antennas.

Direct Semi-Blind Equalization for Space-Time Block Codes
Abstract: The key difference between space time block codes (STBCs) and a general multiple-input multiple-output system is that the transmitted signals of STBC systems are not mutually independent. In this paper we develop an algorithm that exploits the implicit structure of STBCs to achieve direct equalization without knowledge of the channel impulse responses. The performance of the algorithm...

ABSTRACT Recent work has shown how the special structure of linear space-time block codes can be exploited for blind equalization or direct symbol estimation in MIMO wireless systems. In this paper, it is demonstrated that improved performance can be obtained by combining the information provided by the structure of the code together with a priori knowledge that the data symbols are constant mo...
متن کاملSpace-Time Chip Equalization for WCDMA Forward Link with Code-Multiplexed Pilot and Soft Handover
In the forward link of WCDMA systems, multipath propagation destroys the orthogonality of the user signals and causes multi-user interference (MUI). Channel equalization can restore the orthogonality and suppress the MUI. However, adaptive implementations of the chip equalizer receiver that can track fast fading multipath channels are hard to realize in practice. On one hand, sending a training...
متن کاملSemi-blind space-time chip equalizer receivers for WCDMA forward link with code-multiplexed pilot
In the forward link of WCDMA systems, the multipath propagation channel destroys the orthogonality of the spreading codes and therefore causes multi-user interference (MUI). In this paper, we propose new training-based and semi-blind space-time chip equalizer receivers for the forward link of WCDMA systems with a continuous code-multiplexed pilot. Both Least-Squares (LS) algorithms for block pr...
متن کاملSemi-Blind Equalization for OFDM using Space-Time Block Coding and Channel Shortening
Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) communications has become a stalwart in high speed communication systems. By using multiple antennas along with space-time coding, one can leverage spatial diversity gain, or multiple propagation paths, for transmitted signals. This in turn can improve reliability in communication systems. Channel shortening is necessary when the channel impulse response is...
