Is marriage loosing its centrality in Italy?

چکیده
Unlike the countries of north-western Europe, marriage in Italy has maintained a crucial role in the process of family formation. This raise doubts about the possibility that the theory of “second demographic transition” could adequately account for the behaviour of the European population living south of the Alps. The aim of this paper is twofold: to provide some empirical evidence that cohabitation is now spreading in Italy; and to propose an explanation of the delay of its diffusion until the 1990s. The hypothesis proposed here explains the delay, not so much in terms of limited interest of the Italian youth towards this type of union, but with the convenience of the children in the Mediterranean area to avoid choices which are openly clashing with the values of parents. 1 Istituto di Studi su Popolazione e Territorio, Università Cattolica, Largo Gemelli 1, 20123, Milano, Tel. +39 02 72343883, E-mail: [email protected] 2 Istituto Nazionale di Statistica (ISTAT), Via Ravà 150, 00142 – Roma, Tel. +39 06 59524605, E-mail: [email protected] Demographic Research – Volume 11, Article 6 http://www.demographic-research.org 150

Research that focuses on international marriages and on Western or capitalist economies has highlighted marriage as a strategy, but little attention is given to d...

Nowadays, due to the widespread use of social networks, they can be used as a convenient, low-cost, and affordable tool for disseminating all kinds of information and data among the massive users of these networks. Issues such as marketing for new products, informing the public in critical situations, and disseminating medical and technological innovations are topics that have been considered b...

We study network centrality based on dynamic influence propagation models in social networks. To illustrate our integrated mathematical-algorithmic approach for understanding the fundamental interplay between dynamic influence processes and static network structures, we focus on two basic centrality measures: (a) Single Node Influence (SNI) centrality, which measures each node’s significance by...
