Evolution of the European Online News and Music Sectors: a comparative descriptive study

This paper forms the final component of the published research from the Simweb project, the European Commission Fifth Framework project which was investigating the possibility of providing consulting advice to New Economy SMEs. Our component of Simweb investigated the two market sectors – online news and online music – on which the project was focused. In this paper we summarise the results of the project, covering the initial "expert talks" with specialists in our two areas; the Internet-based surveys of stakeholders in the online news and online music sectors; and the face-to-face interviews with selected representatives of these sectors.
