Does the male stimulate oestrogen secretion in female canaries?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Female Border canaries treated with oestrogen during the nonbreeding season may build nests, regardless of winter lighting, temperature, and absence of partner. Incubation may follow completion of the nest although ovulation is suppressed. Reactions obtained in the breeding season suggest that the male does not initiate but accelerates oestrogen production through the stimulation he provides.

Luteal activity of Abadeh ecotype does in summer and winter and the effect of a single dose of kisspeptin-10 injection on luteinizing hormone secretion in the anestrus does
The aims of the present study were to evaluate luteal activity in Abadeh ecotype goat during summer and winter and also the effect of a single dose kisspeptin-10 injection on the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) in female anestrous goats. In the first study, progesterone (P4) concentration in 10 goats in summer (n = 6) and winter (n = 4) were measured every other day. Moreover, ...
متن کاملThe effects of oestrogens on linear bone growth.
Regulation of linear bone growth in children and adolescents comprises a complex interaction of hormones and growth factors. Growth hormone (GH) is considered to be the key hormone regulator of linear growth in childhood. The pubertal increase in growth velocity associated with GH has traditionally been attributed to testicular androgen secretion in boys, and to oestrogens or adrenal androgen s...
متن کاملImmediate early gene (ZENK, Arc) expression in the auditory forebrain of female canaries varies in response to male song quality.
In male songbirds, the song control pathway in the forebrain is responsible for song production and learning, and in females it is associated with the perception and discrimination of male song. However, experiments using the expression of immediate early genes (IEGs) reveal the activation of brain regions outside the song control system, in particular the caudomedial nidopallium (NCM) and the ...
متن کاملHeaven It's My Wife! Male Canaries Conceal Extra-Pair Courtships but Increase Aggressions When Their Mate Watches
Many animals live in a communication network, an environment where individuals can obtain information about competitors or potential mates by observing interactions between conspecifics. In such an environment, interactants might benefit by changing their signalling behaviour in the presence of an audience. This audience effect seems widespread among species, has been observed during various ty...
متن کاملFemale canaries produce eggs with greater amounts of testosterone when exposed to preferred male song.
Male birdsong has a great influence in the stimulation of female reproduction. However, female physiological responsiveness to song may depend on the degree of complexity of male song. This is expected because females of iteroparous organisms may increase their fitness by matching their reproductive investment to the predicted value of each reproductive attempt. To the extent that the expressio...
